Summary

Direct the activities of the Processing Plant Second Process in an efficient manner for the desired quality and quantity of work. This position reports to the Plant Manager. Positions supervised include Pack Out, Cut-up, Tray Pack, and Deboning supervisors. Plan and implement all activities, product, and service in a manner designed to reduce the adverse environmental, social, and economic impacts and incorporate commitment to continuous improvement, pollution prevention, and efficient use of natural resources and sustainable practices. 

 

This position has a target base salary of $85,000 - $95,000 and is eligible for comprehensive benefits, as well as relocation support as applicable. 

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise the activities of the assigned departmental supervisors

  • Direct supervisors with respect to production volume, cost, food safety, quality, and order fill rates

  • Stimulate maximum efficiency and productivity of supervisors and production workers

  • Provide coverage for absence of key personnel

  • Confer with the Plant Manager and Production Scheduling Dept. to establish working schedules for all departments connected with production

  • Maintain adherence to company policies, safety standards, food safety and HACCP, and good housekeeping practice

  • Recommend the hiring and releasing of production personnel as required to maintain production schedule

  • Communicate needs to the Maintenance Dept. to ensure that machinery, equipment, and facilities are properly maintained for efficient production

  • Schedule overtime as required

  • Prepare and maintain appropriate production records

  • Maintain good employee relations and adherence to labor contract provision, take proper and judicious disciplinary measures when required, assist supervisors in handling first step corrective actions, and conduct second step meetings with Human Resources

  • Keep records of departmental activities as required

  • Assure efficient and economical utilization of materials, improvement of methods, and elimination of wasteful practices within the department through process improvement, capital improvement recommendations, and redesigning of equipment

  • In concert with individual supervisors, establish accountability and goals used for performance evaluation

  • Ensure that training occurs for new employees as well as cross training of existing employees

  • Daily contact with assigned department supervisors and other manufacturing personnel

  • Adhere to all safety rules including PPE, preventing and reporting unsafe acts and conditions, Lockout-Tagout procedures, and Process Safety Management related matters

  • Respectful and appropriate communication in interdepartmental meetings and all internal and external contacts

  • Report food safety problems to Director of  Operations and Food Safety & Quality Assurance Manager

  • Perform other duties as required or directed

Education and/or Experience Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of poultry processing experience with prior supervisory experience

  • Basic competence in duties and tasks of supervised employees

  • Working knowledge of data collection and analysis.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in supervising and motivating subordinates

  • Strong organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills

  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees.

  • Proven leadership and business acumen skills

  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels

  • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions

  • Creative, flexible, and innovative team player

  • Commitment to excellence and high standards

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work with all levels of management

  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm

  • Spanish/English Bilingual a plus

  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook

 

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English

  • Spanish a plus but not required

  • Interpret regulations, and/or policies

  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Collect, interpret, and/or analyze data and information

  • Understand and respond to a diverse population

 

Physical Demands:

  • Standing and walking for the majority of the work shift

  • Must be able to lift, pull, and push up to 80 lbs. on occasion

  • Must have dexterity to use hands and arms for cutting, hanging birds, and performing clerical functions.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

When in a plant environment:

  • Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces

  • Exposure to extreme temperatures (28-100 Degrees Fahrenheit)

  • Humidity (0-100%)

  • May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit

  • Noise (50db. - 110db.)

  • May be exposed to dust, feathers, and all chemicals used in poultry processing facility

  • Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company

  • Able to stand for several hours

  • Work may include lifting (up to 50 lbs.), reaching, bending, pushing boxes on conveyor assembly
