SUMMARY: The Process Engineer will design, plan, manage, and commission complex projects for the organization, ensuring on time completion to project specifications. This role requires interaction with a range of internal and external stakeholders managing multiple projects simultaneously. This position is responsible for developing, designing, and planning equipment and piping layouts to increase the efficiency, production capacity, and safety in plant and manufacturing facilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned at management’s discretion.
- Conducts risk assessments; reports identified risks to management; provides recommendations for new projects.
- Review detailed engineering company design submittals, especially heat & material balance (HMB), process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), utility summaries, battery limits schedules, and equipment specifications.
- Participate in the implementation of key process safety management programs including Management of Change, Process Hazard Analysis, Pre-Startup Safety Review and Process Safety Information. Lead these activities as needed.
- Become familiar with and master software used for process design, PSM, work order requests, etc.
- Write process specifications for problem solving, optimization, or new projects. These include HMBs, PFDs, and P&IDs, equipment specification, and instrumentation specifications.
- Partner closely with Production and Maintenance departments to ensure the optimal resolution of operating problems.
- Conducts cost analysis, estimating expected costs for the project to prepare and implement budget.
- Addresses questions, concerns, and/or complaints throughout the project.
- Acts as a liaison between company, contractors, and vendors.
- Receive and coordinate compilation of request for proposals, reviews project proposal, establishes work plan.
- Project management: following specifications, design adaptation to ensure end product meets design and specification requirements.
- Maintains project data in accordance with company standards to ensure that accurate and current data are available for control measurements on all assigned projects.
- Ensures the delivery of consistent and accurate management reporting to accelerate decision making.
- Develops capital project scope, design, and cost benefit analysis.
- Gather process specifications from contractors for problem solving, optimization, or new projects. These include HMBs, PFDs, and P&IDs, equipment specification, and instrumentation specifications.
- Lead the development of both small and large capital projects as assigned.

- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field is required.
- 5+ years relevant experience in project management and/or process operations in a chemical and/or oil processing facility required.
- Previous experience in the development of HMBs, PFDs, and P&IDs required. AutoCAD experience preferred.
- Previous experience with performing pump hydraulics, line sizing, and pump curve evaluation. Ability to size control valves and relief valves preferred.
- Project management software experience preferred (Microsoft Project, Primavera, etc.).
- Broad-based business acumen and understanding of operational and budgetary expectations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work environment consists of office, plant production, and outside climate conditions. Noise level varies within the production area.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, working hours to be determined. Occasionally extended hours or changes in schedule will be required as special circumstances arise.
