Job description

K-Tube Technologies manufactures made to order miniature stainless steel tubing for use in medical, automotive, aerospace, and industrial applications. The Process Design Engineer applies engineering principles to design and modify products and/or the associated tube making processes including welding, drawing, straightening, and cutting/fabrication. Responsible for determining product designs based on analyzing current process and equipment capabilities. Aids in process-related root cause investigations to support the Quality Management System. Conducts product design reviews for underperforming products and collaborates with Engineering and Production to find a solution. Become the SME (subject matter expert) on miniature tube drawing process (sinking and plugging).

 

Pay range: 100,000 -110,000/yr


 

Engineering

  • Analyzes customer product specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that can be produced by existing manufacturing processes.
  • Become the subject matter expert on the tube drawing process (sinking and plugging)
  • Participates in the quotation and contract review processes to confirm customer requirements per drawings or specifications are met satisfied and product will be produced within specification.
  • Create design tools utilizing analytic models that produce more consistent and better performing tubing, while reducing the design turn-around time.
  • Organizes engineering studies/evaluations on customer samples or proposed design prototypes.
  • Studies engineering and technical publications to increase foundational knowledge of tube drawing processes.

 

Production Support

  • Conducts product design reviews for low yield and/or poor performing parts.
  • Aid in rapid troubleshooting process for less-than-optimal designs that are causing production delays.

 

Quality Support

  • Completes comprehensive product-related investigations to support customer complaints and CAPAs.
  • Analyzes data to determine root cause and to prove correction is effective.
  • Interacts with Quality department and customers to complete Process Change Notifications
  • Collaborates with customer and K-Tube Quality department on Qualification activities for new products
  • Participates in monthly reviews and reports on assigned key processes.

 

Education and Experience:

  • BS in Engineering, Materials, Mechanical or Manufacturing strongly preferred. Other areas considered with considerable work experience in materials manufacturing.
  • Minimum 3 years exempt-level engineering work experience in a Manufacturing environment.
  • Preferred: Manufacturing or Engineering experience in metal/stainless steel forming (Tubing, Pipe or Wire Drawing)
  • Preferred: multi-disciplinary engineering experience, demonstrating the ability to apply engineering principles to explain observed system behavior

 

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Solid understanding of the structure and properties of metals
  • Approachable, inquisitive, and relates well to all kinds of people.
  • Able to learn new concepts quickly, adapt to changing environments, and enjoys the challenge of unfamiliar tasks.
  • Must have good communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Must be proficient with MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook
  • Excellent analytical skills

 

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Light to moderate physical effort required
  • Regularly required to sit or stand, reach and move about the facility

 

Work environment:

  • Work performed in both a manufacturing and office environment
  • Travel required to customers’ facilities
  • Exposure to metals, lubricants, solvents, electrolytes and other hazardous materials
  • Professional environment requiring business casual attire

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Safety glasses and safety shoes are required
  • Other personal safety equipment required as listed in SDS depending on task may include safety goggles, ear protection, full - face shield, apron, arm guards, rubber boots and gloves.

Position Type:    Hybrid – typically requires 3 days per week in the office and additional days as necessary
