Job Description
The Probation Officer plays a crucial role in juvenile court to provide the people with an open, fair, efficient, and independent system for the advancement of justice under the law. Juvenile court judges deliver justice under the law to juvenile court patrons. As authorized by management, the Probation Officer assists those judges in cases related to abused, neglected, or dependent children and in cases involving juvenile delinquency. They guide youth in juvenile court to change behavior patterns and develop skills needed to avoid becoming adult criminal offenders. Typically, the Probation Officer performs intake case processing and/or probation supervision of minors referred to the juvenile court, provides guidance to court patrons on juvenile court processes/procedures, performs case management functions, and facilitates appropriate interventions using evidence-based principles of effective intervention. In this manner, Probation Officers proactively find appropriate ways to remove barriers to the justice system for juveniles and their families so that courtroom decisions may be guided by uncluttered, principled analysis.
