Job Summary:Under the immediate direction of the Radiology Specialist, performs echocardiograms as ordered by the physician for information in the diagnosis and treatment of patient's condition. The Sonographer performs complex technical duties requiring the use of analysis and the use of calculations and judgment in recognizing and identifying cross-sectional transverse anatomy on ultrasound images to obtain diagnostic results. Both visual and spatial acuity are required to perform critical measurements. The Sonographer must use cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images. They assume responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer's care. They must fulfill the CME credits set by the credentialing organization. Also they must be available to rotate call during off hours, weekends, and holidays. .
Minimal Acceptable Job Qualifications
Licensure:
- Current registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or American Registry of diagnostic Cardiac Sonographers or allied health credentialed and successful completion of ARDMS/ARDCS registration within two years.
- BCLS within 60 days of hire
Experience:Adult and pediatric echocardiogram experience preferred
Education:Graduate of an accredited allied health care program with work related experience in ultrasound; six months to one year of clinical experience with cardiac care patients.
Other:Demonstrates general working knowledge of non-invasive cardiac test procedures and ultrasound operations, as well as heart anatomy.
Requires strong working knowledge of the normal growth, development, related behaviors, needs, comfort, and range of treatment appropriate to the age (including neonate, child, adolescent, aging adult) and diagnosis of patient served to support the provision of an individualized multidisciplinary plan of care.
Requires strong analytical and organizational skills in order to set up, adjust, and monitor patient and equipment for high quality test data.
Demonstrates well developed interpersonal and communication skills in order to interact effectively with all internal and external customers.
Knowledge of both Radiology and Cardiac PACS systems.
The sonographer must be able to select proper transducer and gain settings to produce diagnostic images. Each patient exam should be completed based on the exam type and patient limitations. Team member will perform exams and will consult with the cardiologist as needed. They will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communicational skills, both verbal and written, necessary to interact effectively with all internal and external unit customers, as needed. They must be able to accept responsibility, make independent decisions, and interact with professionals. Sonographers must be proficient in word processing and database management. Must be able to perform exams on all ages (pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric).
