Prior Authorization Specialist

Job Responsibilities

• Verify insurance benefits and eligibility for patients.
• Communicate insurance benefits and requirements to patients.
• Obtain authorizations and referrals for procedures, consults, IVF, IUI, and medications.
• Collect and follow up on gap exceptions.
• Submit prescription orders to the appropriate pharmacy.
• Appeal denials of authorizations, referrals, and gap exceptions as needed.
• Work with pharmaceutical vendors to stay current on savings programs for patients.

Qualifications

• High school diploma at minimum.
• At least one year of experience working in a medical office.
• Excellent customer service and telephone communication skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Understanding of medical benefits, coverage and managed healthcare.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
