Title: Bindery / Wide Format Printing & Installation Technician (Requisition Id 29136)
Job Type: Full-Time/ Contractual
Location: Primary worksite 3301 Pennsy Drive, Landover, MD 20785, and occasional visit & work site at 1818 H Street, NW, Washington, DC 20433.
Shift timing: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Pay: $17.87 per hour. (Bi-Weekly)
“The pay range for this position starts at $17.87 per hour; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interpret EFI job tickets and work requests and select appropriate binding and distribution techniques according to job specifications and equipment.
- Set up, adjust, and operate various bindery and distribution equipment (e.g., paper cutters and trimmers, folders, creasers, collators, laminators, stitchers, drills, multiple-station inserters, multiple-head labelers, tabbers, paper-tape banders, document stringers, etc.) for completion of work requests.
- Operate advanced and complex binding lines, including perfect binders and multiple-station stitchers.
- Provide manual hand-insertion of work into envelopes when automated solutions are not viable.
- Deliver Distribution jobs to the GSD Mail Center or other designated destinations.
- Change work tasks and assigned stations at the direction of lead staff and Contractor management as priorities dictate.
- Ensure proper functioning of equipment. Perform basic equipment maintenance, and minor repairs and report major equipment malfunctions and service needs.
- Track inventory of supplies, consumables, and tools, reporting any deficiencies.
- Maintain a neat and clean work area, ensuring that standard safety regulations are met.
- Record daily production figures, job information, and time accounting into the EFI shop floor system.
- Receive and process supplies and materials -- accounting, moving, rotating, storing, and staging materials from delivery personnel and as directed by Materials Management staff.
Skills and Qualifications:
- H.S. diploma or equivalent
- Must be 21 years old and above.
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- The work schedule generally consists of 40 hours per week, which may include on-call status, evenings, and/or weekends.
- Manipulate and convert client mail-list files between Excel and Word to Mail Manager for addressing on Videojet equipment and output to adhesive labels from laser printers.
- Knowledge of pre-press technology and workflow required.
- Knowledge of digital print technology and workflow required.
- Knowledge of large format print technology and workflow required.
- Communicating all project information with the Service Delivery Manager.
- Follow all assigned facility policies, including health & safety, building security, data security, and a harassment-free work environment.
- Report and document any accidents or injuries immediately.
- Perform the functions of departmental leaders in their absence, as needed.
- Perform various print production tasks as required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Physical Requirements:
- The ability to stand for 95% of the shift (excluding breaks)
- The ability to lift 30 – 50 lbs. boxes for the duration of the shift.
- The ability to push carts loaded with printed material to workstations.
- The ability to pull fully loaded skids of printed material.
- 1-3 years in a digital Wide Format print production.
- Experience running state-of-the-art color printers and wide format cutters required i.e. (HP Latex 560, HP Pagewide 6000XL, EFI Flatbed & Colex SXC1732
- Ability to communicate both verbally and written with customers and company personnel.
- Ability to effectively work individually or in a team environment.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Capable of laminating, mounting, and trimming to exact specifications.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Must be able to effectively prepare and troubleshoot a variety of file formats and edit PDF documents.
- Experience printing on a large variety of substrates, finishing and installing high quality products including signs, banners, decals and display using the latest equipment technologies.
