Salary: $75,000 - $85,000 Depending on [directly related] work experience and education level.

POSITION:   High School Principal 

EMPLOYER: Student Choice High School - (Yuma)

SUPERVISOR:      Primary - Administrator for Leadership & Accountability; (District Oversight - Chief Executive Officer)

FLSA STATUS:  Exempt

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: $75,000 - $85,000 DOE annual salary Full Time - 12 Months/225 work days (Work Calendar A)

  • This is an on-site position with eligibility for temporary telework based on eligible criteria noted in the Employee Handbook and prior approval by the Supervisor.
  • For positions outside Maricopa County, travel and overnight stay could be required for participation in district-level, onsite professional development, training, and meetings at designated locations within the Greater Phoenix area. (Compensation will be provided for travel, food, and lodging).


JOB SUMMARY:  The role of the Principal at Student Choice High School serves as a champion for students needing wrap-around services and an alternative pathway to their high school diploma.  This is a dynamic individual that understands alternative education and who strongly advocates for under-privileged and under-served youth and young adults. Utilizing the National Alternative Education Association’s Exemplary Practices as the standard for excellence, the Principal promotes and enhances the overall mission, vision, and culture of the organization; engages in professional development and program evaluation with all stakeholders to foster continuous improvement; adheres to all policies and procedures benefiting the success of the organization and all stakeholders; supervises staff and performs tasks in the development and continuous implementation of a high school program, which promotes the educational well-being of each student in the school.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishes goals and objectives for the school that align with the district's mission and vision.
  • Provides leadership for a professional learning community.
  • Provides leadership in planning, supervision, implementing and evaluating instructional programs. 
  • Provides leadership in a collaborative approach to decision-making, teaching techniques, innovation and class organization. 
  • Manages resources to protect the integrity of the program. 
  • Participates in professional growth activities and organizations to improve administrative skills.
  • Participates and represents perspective in district-wide committees.
  • Manages the process of interviewing, evaluating, and selecting new staff members. 
  • Evaluates, determines, and works with staff needs as a whole and individually. 
  • Evaluates personnel and facilitates the determination of goals to improve performance.  
  • Establishes and enforces disciplinary procedures to allow due process to the rights of students; familiarizes students, staff, and parents with the disciplinary procedures; hears and acts on behavior problems referred to the principal’s office.
  • Facilitates compliance and alignment to federal, state, and local regulations related to Student Learning Plans, an Education and Career Action Plan for a students’ post-secondary skills and interests, Mentoring, and student sub-group needs.
  • Upholds staff accountability with organizational policies and procedures. 
  • Works to maintain and improve the quality of the instructional program by being responsible for teachers and support staff for the implementation of the curriculum and digital and virtual learning. 
  • Provides the leadership necessary to ensure that each teacher is following the graded course of study and best instructional practices.
  • Provides direction for the use of assessment and data to support instructional effectiveness and differentiated to meet personalized student needs.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and/or serve as a liaison between the school and the community, families, and partnering schools.
  • Works with the district office to ensure minimum ADM is maintained.
  • Works with the civil authorities. 
  • Supports the philosophy, core values, mission and vision of Student Choice.
  • Works as part of a collaborative District/Campus team and projects collegiality and ability to inspire trust.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:


  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable SCHS District and departmental policies and procedures
  • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications 
  • Knowledge of the development of key processes for the purpose of increasing operational efficiencies and ensuring high-level customer service. 
  • Extensive knowledge in the delivery of training including use of technology and best practices related to the development and delivery of training.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of administration, supervision and training. 
  • Knowledge of public speaking techniques. 
  • Possesses knowledge of and demonstrates respect for all employees, executive staff, community leaders using tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Acknowledges and respects diverse perspectives. 
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district
  • Ability to inspire trust. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills.  
  • Excellent persuasive skills, with the ability to be calm under pressure, may be required in positions that deal with sensitive or controversial subjects.


QUALIFICATIONS: 

Minimum:

  • A Master’s Degree or higher in educational administration.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience as a teacher or administrator.

Desired:

  • Seven or more years of successful administrative experience leading, supervising and managing an organization.
  • Experience in Alternative Education.
  • Bilingual - Spanish and English.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Arizona Teaching Certificate.
  • Arizona Administration and Supervision Certificate.
  • Current IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. 
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
