The Team

The Developer Experience (DevEx) team sits within the Software Engineering Organization. The DevEX team is unique in that it supports both Mobile and Pump teams across macOS, Linux, and Windows environments. Its mission is to build a software factory that enables innovation and throughput at a high rate of speed and efficiency.

This team is focused on enabling the Software Engineering organization to focus within their Areas of Responsibility (AOR) by concentrating on three tracks of work:

The Role

As a Principal Software Engineer in the Developer Experience organization your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Ability to take ownership and drive technology strategy to influence technical direction amongst the team.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead cross-team collaboration in the engineering organization.
• A hands-on focus on execution interspersed with actively mentoring and fostering talent among the team.
• Produce creative solutions to difficult problems that balance both design and delivery.
• Commitment to trust and transparency within the working team to cultivate collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Understands incremental improvement and champions technical and process initiatives to improve quality and ensure a best-in-class product.
• Effectively translate regulatory requirements and system risks into the software design.
• Articulates plans, tradeoffs, and assumptions clearly and concisely to enable teams to make quick, educated decisions.

• Architects and designs CICD infrastructure and applications to automate key development workflows.
• Articulates designs for complex, multi-component apps to be built across development teams.
• Supports multiple projects simultaneously with an eye for extensibility and reusability.
• Solves challenging problems and balances user experience and robust technical solutions.
• Embraces the challenges of a regulatory environment and can build technical solutions that optimize building software to meet regulatory requirements without compromising efficiency.
• Establishes platform best practices and determines when to incorporate cutting edge technology into the stack.
• Collaborates and drives out-of-the-box solutions that increase quality throughout the Software Engineering ecosystem and reduce time-to-build.
• Proactively designs for optimization and performance to ensure users have consistent access to their therapy and data.
• Guides and influences multiple engineering groups when necessary.
• Transforms security regulations and guidance into technical designs and solutions.
• Guides engineers programmatically by implementing readable, efficient, straight-forward algorithms and solutions that can outlive any one developer.
• Explores new architectural concepts and integrations that revolutionize diabetes management.
• Acts independently to identify process improvements within the engineering group and proposes solutions.
• May manage working interactions with external vendors and resources ensuring that delivery and timelines are met.
• Incorporates test methodologies and best practices to the codebase. Appreciates the importance of testing and serves as an example for other engineers.
• Ensures compliance with company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA (when applicable), and other legal and regulatory requirements.

YOU’RE AWESOME AT:

• Proven ability to build production-level code, launch and iterate under pressure.
• Experience developing consumer-facing software.
• Capable of translating high level requirements into well-designed implementations.
• Mastery of at least one technology and tech stack.
• Experience integrating C++ libraries in a Mobile ecosystem.
• Able to articulate work assignments and direct the work of more junior team members.
• Adept at seeing change as an opportunity to improve business performance and campaigning for it when necessary.
• Knowledge of basic Bluetooth Low Energy architecture and principles

EXTRA AWESOME:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer sciences, Engineering or Mathematics or related field or equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience.
• 12 years of software development experience.
• 5 years of native mobile app development or embedded experience.
• 2 years of NoOps or equivalent experience.
• 3 years developing in Swift, Kotlin, or Go.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

The starting base pay range for this position is $186,000 - $210,000 annually. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus, equity, and a robust benefits package.

Tandem offers health care benefits such as medical, dental, vision, health savings accounts and flexible saving accounts.
