The Principal Scientist, Gene Therapy position in the RNA, Gene Therapy & Delivery Department in Therapeutics Discovery offers an exciting opportunity to help develop novel Gene Therapies for unmet medical needs. We are investigating the use of Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV) vectors to deliver therapeutic proteins to patients for disease prevention and treatment, especially for ophthalmological and neurological disease.
We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to lead research in Gene Therapy platforms and programs directed at diseases of the eye. This candidate will have a background in AAV technology and application to ophthalmic biology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead discovery research activity developing innovative ways to test and optimize viral vectors for Gene therapies.
- Design/implement projects for gene therapies for the eye and CNS.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for Gene Therapy and delivery technologies directed to the eye and CNS.
- Implement research studies and lead efforts to meet program and corporate objectives.
- Foster a collaborative and creative culture of scientific discovery.
Qualifications
- PhD in Virology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field with 6+ years in the pharmaceutical industry or academic environment is required.
- Biological expertise in one or more eukaryotic viral vectors and experience re-engineering viruses to change their potency, serotype, replicative properties, or packaging capacity is required.
- Wet lab experience with cell-based and biochemical technologies is required.
- Excellent abilities in experimental design, execution, and data analysis related to genome editing and molecular biology techniques are required.
- Strong critical, scientific, and decisive thinking skills allowing individual to work independently with minimal supervision is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Experience in Gene Therapy to include retina and neurological diseases is preferred.
The anticipated base pay range for this position is $135,000 to $232,300.
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under
current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

- Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year.
- Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year.
