At CAES, we engineer solutions for the world's most critical missions. We serve customers in the defense and aerospace markets.
Seeking a career that offers challenging, diverse projects and opportunities? Looking for a position with a company that offers long-term professional advancement? Searching for a place that values a diverse, team-based environment? One that values YOU. Consider CAES.
The most important thing we build is TRUST
Overview
Would you like to draw on your ingenuity and engineering principles to help deliver leading-edge defense systems for the air, on land and at sea? Would you like to have an experience in an Engineering environment like no other? At CAES, you will make a difference every day while working in a dynamic team of engineering professionals.
The Principal RF Systems Design Engineer role will apply broad technical knowledge and skills in various scientific/technical disciplines to the design, analysis, planning, and development of major subsystems and small-scale systems. Systems are primarily in the RF Electronic Warfare (EW) business area that includes Radar Warning (RW), Situational Awareness, Interferometry/Direction Finding (DF), Electronic Attack (EA), as well as Self-Protect RF Counter Measures (RFCM) including on-/off-board systems.
The successful candidate must have a propensity to create designs, perform simulations and/or generate circuit analysis for system-level requirements as well as RF components based on performance, schedule, cost, reliability, and manufacturability goals. This could include any combination of technical research, test, documentation, and presentation. This role works closely with other engineering disciplines and provides technical insight to ensure that designs achieve "best value" goals of meeting performance and life cycle requirements within allocated budget and schedule constraints.
Responsibilities
  • Requirements generation/review/management and the decomposition/allocation into appropriate sub-system/component levels.
  • Design/allocate functional elements of a system; RF/antenna, digital, I/O, SW, Mechanical.
  • Generate system block diagrams, interconnection drawings (ICDs), and assembly outline drawings.
  • Conduct trade analysis, architectural studies, and characteristic modeling for performance.
  • Propose technical solutions and define potential impacts on cost, schedule and programmatic risk.
  • Calculate/generate models, RF chains, or simulations aiding in deriving/allocating requirements or predicted performance for compliance.
  • Recommend, plan, lead, review, and identify risks for R&D efforts.
  • Integrate and test modules or subsystems in various laboratory or field environments.
  • Generate technical material/estimates for submission and/or briefing to internal/external customers.
  • Occasional domestic travel to support government/industry sponsored activities; industry-days, CONOP exercises, technical interchanges.

Qualifications
Minimum:
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, RF systems, Physics or equivalent experience.
  • Eight (8)+ years of technical work experience with RF design exposure.
  • Eight (8)+ years performing RF measurements such as; VSWR, Noise Figure, Gain, Compression using test equipment (e.g. network analyzer, signal generator, oscilloscope, etc.)
  • Eight (8)+ years working with frequencies from microwave to millimeter wave (10 to 40 GHz).
  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by US export laws. In order to be eligible for this position, you must be a "US Person" under US export laws (or eligible for approval under a U.S. Government export license).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Preferred:
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems, or Physics.
  • Fifteen (15) + years of RF technical work, primarily in the Defense Industry.
  • Created printed circuit designs, schematic captures (e.g. Altium), or 3D printed devices.
  • Designed to and/or specified requirements for EW, radar, or communication systems.
  • RF/microwave principles and subsystem analysis methodologies.
  • Designed, implemented, or specified embedded software or signal processing algorithms for pulsed capture.
  • Integration, validation & verification experience for system compliance determination.
  • Experience programming with MATLAB or other scripting language (e.g. Python), simulation tools (e.g. AWR, ADS, HFSS, or CST).
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools (e.g. DOORS), and model-based systems engineering methodology (e.g. CATIA).
  • Strong verbal communication skills with ability to present data and explain results to key stakeholders.
  • Active DOD Secret Clearance.
