Key Responsibilities
- Provides Ram Air Turbine (RAT) or Micro Vapor Cycle System fan and pump motor controller Project Engineering function for Electric Drive Systems in Torrance, California
- Responsible for the execution and oversight of long-term electric drive systems RAT/MVCS engineering projects.
- Plans, estimates, and schedules engineering work for assigned projects or relevant subproject segments.
- Manages RAT/MVCS project resources and compiles cumulative project Schedule Performance Index and Cost Performance Index (SPI/CPI) status. Collects and presents earned value tracking status for assigned RAT/MVCS projects at a senior director level.
- Generates program change requests for new RAT/MVCS project subtasks and tracking for program budget changes.
- Presents monthly program reviews and reports status with director level manager.
- Requests resources for electrical circuit design, electrical systems engineering or mechanical engineering support to match project man-loading levels
- Plans, schedules, and budgets to accomplish RAT/MVCS project tasks quickly using agile processes and do different methods to produce rapid prototype hardware.
- Generates Basis Of Estimates for electrical motor controller design activities. Includes coordination of estimates from support teams such as mechanical packaging, stress, and thermal.
- Ensures that all assigned program milestones are tracked and schedules are met on-time and on budget.
You Must Have
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering such as Electrical, Systems, Mechanical, Aero or mechatronics.
- 20+ years in the Aerospace industry
We Value
- Advanced Engineering degree such as a Masters or an MBA
- Significant Project Engineering experience estimating, planning, scheduling, and implementing budget control for engineering work.
- Significant years of Systems/Electro-Mechanical Engineering project experience with orientation towards electro-mechanical turbomachinery and aircraft cooling systems design
- Expert knowledge of motor controllers, actuators, and high-power power electronics desired.
- Basic understanding level of Ram Air Turbine (RAT) design, turbines, bearings, guide vanes, test and failure analysis.
- Experience with root cause and corrective action process
- Management of suppliers to procure motor controller hardware related to printed circuit card assemblies and components.
- Ability to produce white papers to document findings, and results of trade studies
- Composition of PowerPoint presentations for peer reviews, team meetings, program design reviews, and phase gate activities
- Familiarity with aircraft and aerospace testing standards, such as DO-178B, DO-160 desired
- Knowledge of systems and Project Engineering best practices, systems integration, verification of requirements, and validation of system functionality
