Principal Engineer (Pharmaceutical)

Overview/Summary:
This position will support operations from Project Management expert role within Engineering and Facilities department in Somerset NJ. The Somerset, NJ site produces oral solid and liquid dosage form pharmaceuticals. Reporting to Associate Director- Engineering and Facilities, the Principal Engineer will manage projects includes but not limited to: Capital Expenditure, new installation of manufacturing/packaging/utilities equipment, modification and upgrades of Facilities buildings, continuous improvement focusing on efficiently and safety. This role will manage multiple projects, at various stages of implementation; utilizing internal and external resources.
Responsibilities:

• Develop User requirements specifications, project scope & objectives and manage a detailed project schedule and work execution plan; keeping Quality and Safety at first
• Lead cross-functional teams to successful delivery of assigned projects to time, cost and quality in accordance with organization’s strategy and priorities
• Develop, Manage, facilitate and maintain all relevant project documentation and content, including but not limited to; Permits, design drawings, as built layouts, change controls, user and operations manuals, contracts, testing, balancing and calibration reports, etc
• Develop “best in class” project strategy in collaboration with key stakeholders, gaining agreement to the project plan and timelines, to enable efficiency and excellence in launch execution through to successful project completion
• Ensure that the roles and responsibilities are clearly defined, understood and that the capability exists to fulfil the responsibilities; across external and internal resources, associated with projects’ execution
• Work with cross functional groups to accomplish objectives including Finance & Procurement, Operations, Supply chain, Maintenance, Technical services, Security, Quality assurance, and Quality control to drive solutions, timelines, and accountability
• Collaborate with multiple groups, as required, within the site to ensure strategic initiatives are executed accordingly to an agreed upon projected time line. Ensure that a project flows efficiently from step to step, and between departments
• Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about progress, cost, strategy and adjustments
• Resolve any issues that may hinder the successful completion of the project. Escalate to senior management when risks are visible, providing details such as cost, timing and capacity to support decisions
• Participate and develop plans for improving a safe work place and culture of identifying, reporting, and fixing unsafe conditions and behaviors within the site and our work teams
• Under the guidance of a leader and able to communicate progress, needs, requirements, and issues effectively for assigned work and projects for one’s self and that of teams and associate engineers. Will implement goals and objectives set forth by leadership and able to work independently
• Working hours typically 8 to 5 Monday through Friday or other as approved by supervisor. Some off-hour shift support required occasionally and flexing of hours needed to interface with operations shifts during projects, investigations, and training
• Carry out all duties in accordance with Good Manufacturing practices (cGMP) and standard operations procedures.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Engineering or scientific field
• Minimum of 6 years’ experience in engineering project management, in the pharmaceutical industry
• Knowledge of pharmaceutical processing, equipment, building and utilities systems
• Knowledge of financial functions
• Excellent computer skills; AutoCad, MS Project and MS office suite
• PMP certification, is a plus
• Strong problem-solving skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently
