PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES/DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Analyzes engineering design documents to establish manufacturing methods and processes to manufacture a component, including creating conceptual sketches and initiating the Design and building of required tooling within established budgets and submits for appropriate approvals. 2. Continually evaluates alternative manufacturing methods/processes for cost reductions, improved products, competitive manufacturing advantage and capacity limitations. 3. Analyzes discrepant parts, dispositions nonconforming material reports and prepares rework/repair procedures and customer submittal documents, as required. 4. Estimates engineering time and tooling cost for customer design changes and submits estimates to Estimating Department. 5. Assists Estimating Department in estimating future orders. 6. Prepares detailed design documentation for engineered aerospace components in accordance with customer requirements. 7. Prepares and/or assigns the preparation of conceptual design drawings and supporting technical literature of engineered products. 8. Assists in the preparation and presentation of design proposals to potential customers. 9. Resolves product design problems in conjunction with technical customer representatives and assists in implementation of resolutions. Rev. January 2024 10. Directs the preparation of accurate and complete manufacturing drawings. 11. Assists in establishing and maintaining valid structural design methodology for component design. 12. Interacts with Manufacturing, Estimating and Contracts to define changes in scope of the product design, which occur as the result of a customer's specification change. 13. May provide technical direction to the design drafting function. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: EDUCATION Requires a 4-year degree in Manufacturing Engineering or mechanical/civil/aerospace engineering, or equivalent. COMMUNICATION AND MOTIVATIONAL SKILLS Must possess good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE 1. Must possess 7+ years aerospace component design experience in a manufacturing environment with an understanding of advanced materials and fabrication technology and some experience with finite element analysis. 2. Must have good working skills in the use of mechanical Computer Aided Design (CAD) and some experience in computer programming for design analysis. Requires a knowledge of drafting standards and should be skilled in the preparation of good design documentation. 3. Should be able to demonstrate an ability to independently do work of a creative nature. 4. Must understand fabrication, assembly, and shop math, including algebra, trigonometry, and spatial relations. 5. Expected to be familiar with material processes and the use of and design of tools, fixtures, and gauges. 6. Prefer some working knowledge of computerized systems.
