GE Vernova Consulting Services is seeking to hire a Principal Consultant, Sustainability Strategy to join its growing Carbon Management Consulting (CMC) practice area. The role will be pivotal in providing comprehensive and tailored solutions to GE Vernova’s global client base to support them throughout their decarbonization journey.As part of an experienced team of consultants, the Principal Consultant – Sustainability strategy will focus on helping clients design corporate sustainability strategies, navigate reporting and disclosure regulations, and facilitate a seamless transition to a decarbonized future. We are looking for an established self-driven leader who combines strong consulting and business development skills with a solid technical foundation in decarbonization and ESG, and a track record of delivering world-class services and outcomes for clients.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Lead and manage global consulting engagements focused on elements of designing and implementing corporate sustainability and decarbonization strategy ensuring alignment with business goals, compliance with regulatory landscape across geographies of operations.
Provide clients with strategic guidance and thought leadership to design and implement ESG-related governance structures, envision, and implement change management programs, and implement organizational systems.
Support clients establish reporting frameworks with appropriate metrics that sync their Sustainability Strategy to the overall business strategy in accordance with applicable regulations and/or other voluntary reporting standards.
Support clients to produce sustainability impact reports and disclosures.
Develop processes, frameworks, toolkits, assessment templates to evaluate clients’ Sustainability Strategy maturity. Identify areas of improvement that would drive customer value and build potential pipeline for CMC practice.
Evaluate climate-related risks and opportunities, both transition and physical impacts. Identify and assess strategies to mitigate those risks and enhance sustainability and resilience for clients.
Support business development and growth of CMC practice by expanding and introducing world class advisory service offerings in the field of sustainability consulting further complementing GE Vernova’s position as a global leader in the Energy Transition.
Manage projects and project teams from inception to completion including activities such as leading proposals, tracking financial performance, coordinating and assigning day-to-day project activities to deliver engagements within schedule and budget, and serving as the point of contact for clients
Contribute to knowledge development initiatives that advance the organization’s capabilities.
Support the demonstration of thought leadership through blogs, white papers, and briefing documents and also participation in industry and technical advisory groups and conference panels.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in sustainability, energy, environmental studies, business, public policy, or related discipline from an accredited college or university.
At least 10 years of experience in a sustainability/ESG advisory position in a global management or environmental consultancy firm with responsibilities for project management, client engagement and business development.
At least 5-years’ experience in leading sustainability and decarbonization strategy design across the power generation, industrial, oil & gas or other hard to abate emission sectors. Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% internationally and domestically
At least 5-years’ experience in working with key ESG frameworks such as UN SDG, CDP, CSRD, ISSB, GRI, and TCFD. Familiarity with key emerging regulations such as US’s SEC Non-financial Disclosures, California Assembly Bill 1305, SECR, CRFD, IFRS S1/S2, EU CBAM and others
Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% internationally and domestically
Desired Characteristics
Master’s Degree in sustainability, energy, environmental studies, business, public policy, or related discipline from an accredited college or university.
Familiarity of emerging decarbonization technology solutions, Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS), Direct Air Capture (DAC), Hydrogen, Onshore and Offshore Wind, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs),
Familiarity with climate modeling and scientific programming.
Familiarity with climate financing mechanisms and voluntary carbon markets.
Familiarity with materiality assessment, water management, waste management, bio-diversity circular economy, land use and supply chain sustainability topics is highly advantageous.
Experience in developing climate risk strategies and conducting vulnerability assessments for cities, states, or countries.
Experience with climate change topics including GHG assessments, Science-Based Targets, net zero strategy and decarbonization roadmaps.
Experience in public domain and cross-sector Sustainability Strategy design is highly advantageous.
Demonstrated business acumen by comprehensively understanding clients' risks and challenges, and adeptly formulate enterprise-wide solutions.
Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills, including the ability to disaggregate issues, develop hypotheses and actionable recommendations from data and analysis focused on sustainability challenges.
Highly effective communicator, facilitator of meetings, and presenter to a diverse set of clients and colleagues at all levels.
Demonstrated ability to create new work processes across multiple business/organizational entities
Demonstrated ability to drive to clear, concise outcomes
Team Worker with strong interpersonal and leadership skills, positive attitude and target oriented
Executive oral and written communication and presentation skills
Effective negotiation and problem-solving skills with proven ability to work through difficult situations
