Preschool Extended Care Teacher

Calvary Center School (CCS) is a well-established and highly-regarded preschool looking for an enthusiastic and energetic Preschool Teacher available immediately to provide play-based Extended Care for our young students ages 3-5. You will supervise creative and productive indoor and outdoor play each afternoon that teaches children important social-emotional skills that are necessary to handle the routines of school. You demonstrate great love for and patience with small children, and are experienced and capable in classroom management. You understand how to be engaging and to prepare interesting activities that hold short attention spans. You love nature and outdoor play.

Responsibilities

• Develop a creative and stimulating play environment suitable for preschool children
• Employ a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, movement, literature, outdoor exploration and exercise, music, etc.) to involve children
• Observe and gain an understanding of each child to help him/her improve social competencies and build self-esteem
• Encourage children to interact with each other and resolve occasional arguments
• Guide children toward play activities that practice both fine motor and gross motor skills
• Organize and clean up rest time and snack
• Supervise children and play areas to ensure students are safe at all times
• Maintain a clean and organized classroom consistent with health and safety standards and efficient transition between activities
• Pick up and carry 40-pound child up a flight of stairs if necessary in an emergency

Skills

• Proven experience in child care
• Understanding of the principles of child development and preschool educational methods - must have 90 hour certification from the Office of Child Care or obtain it over the summer
• Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms
• Excellent communication and instructional skills
• Ability to act as mediator between children
• Friendly, professional, even-tempered, and highly reliable
• CPR and First Aid

Job Schedule: September through May. June optional but preferred. Preschool Extended Care Teacher needed for Monday-Friday, 12:00-5:00pm. Additional morning hours available if desired.

Salary: Based upon experience and certifications, between $18-22 per hour.
