At Movement Pre-K, Assistant Teachers work alongside a lead teacher to provide developmentally appropriate play-based learning that promotes students' academic, and social-emotional skills in a joyful and equitable environment. Assistant teachers help to create and maintain a sense of belonging and care for students and their families within their classroom community, and in alignment with the community culture of the school. As part of the teaching team in the classroom, Assistant Teachers are responsible for the well-being, safety, and academic and social emotional development of their students with the intention of developing a love of learning in all scholars. High quality instruction paired with relationship building, emotional support, and strong classroom organization skills are essential to this role. All Pre-K Assistant Teaching positions report to Movement Pre-K leadership.
All Pre-K Assistant Teachers are paired with a Lead Teacher. Our co-teaching structure allows for purposeful collaboration, high teacher responsiveness, and differentiated instruction. Each Friday at Movement School and Movement Pre-K is a half-day for students, allowing teachers time for weekly professional development and prep related to content/instructional knowledge, classroom management, and data analysis.
Responsibilities include:
Instructional Responsiveness & Content Knowledge

    • Work collaboratively with the lead teacher to internalize and teach provided curriculum(s) and designated blocks with fidelity. Including alignment to NC Foundations for Early Learning and Development, high engagement, and differentiated instruction based on student performance data.
    • Plan and present differentiated small group instruction.
    • Implement curriculum resources effectively.
    • Facilitate student assessments with fidelity.
    • Track, analyze, and monitor student data, and effectively use this data to support instruction and intervention.

Collaboration, Culture, and Mindset
    • Collaborate with lead Teacher in delivering high quality instruction, implement weekly feedback conversations, divide tasks, and hold each other accountable to responsibilities.
    • Develop and maintain clear and effective communication with the lead teacher, colleagues, and school staff.
    • Actively participate in coaching sessions, staff meetings, professional development sessions, and team meetings, and demonstrate a growth mindset and willingness to receive and give feedback.
    • Create a responsive and inclusive environment for parents and families with clear lines of communication, including effectively communicating student performance, data, observations and logistical information.

Care of Students & Classroom Culture
    • Support in building a classroom culture that empowers students, affirms their identities, and creates a sense of belonging for all students.
    • Implement classroom management and emotional support strategies in alignment with school-wide policies.
    • Support character development, social emotional skills, and positive classroom culture.
    • Develop authentic relationships with students and families.
    • Support in the creation and maintenance of a positive, structured learning environment that invites and excites students as they embrace learning by creating and maintaining predictable classroom routines, and consistent expectations.
    • Demonstrate a care of the physical classroom environment through organization systems and tidiness.
    • Shares responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in all areas of the school.

Other Information & Requirements
    • While students receive instruction from approximately 7:45am to 3pm, Movement Pre-K teachers are on duty in school Monday through Friday from approximately 7:25am to 4pm.
    • Perform morning, lunch, coverage support, and afternoon duties as assigned, and in compliance with state regulations.
    • Pass a criminal background check including a fingerprint check, as required by law.
    • Pass a health screening with required TB test, as required by state regulations.
    • Additional responsibilities may arise during the school year. This could include but not limited to: attending school/program events, open houses, family-teacher conferences, home visits, and other events involving families and students as needed. We will communicate them to all employees with as much notice and flexibility as possible.
    • Perform logistical duties, as required, relating to student reports and records, attendance reports, and meal reports, etc. and all other duties assigned by Movement Pre-K Leadership.

Qualifications
    • NC Early Childhood Certification/Credential
    • AAS Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (Preferred)
    • Commitment to working with students from diverse communities
    • At least one+ years of teaching experience in early childhood education (Pre-K-3rd grade)/licensed child care facility.
    • Punctual and reliable, takes initiative, organized, able to effectively communicate and collaborate with others.
    • Must be able to lift 35lbs.
