Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or GED
- For Head Start Pre-K Classrooms - Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential or willingness to obtain a CDA
- Texas Education Agency paraprofessional Educational Aide certificate
- Experience working with children
- Ability to get along with others and follow directions while working independently
- Computer/typing skills and/or willingness to learn
The role of the Early Childhood/Pre-K/Kindergarten Educational Aide is to Early Childhood/Pre-K/Kindergarten teacher(s) in facilitating student achievement; assist the teacher(s) in contributing to the educational system as a whole and to the growth of each student; assist the teacher(s) in aiding each student in developing skills, acquiring knowledge and achieving maximum potential. Major Duties:
- Follow state and federal policies and procedures
- Assisting the Early Childhood/Pre-K/Kindergarten teacher(s) in promoting student learning and achievement
- Assist teacher(s) in daily planning
- Practice proper behavior management techniques
- Promote a positive experience for students in the school setting
- Set-up and assist with supervision of listening stations and/or centers
- Work one-on-one with student(s) who need individual help
- Clarify teacher directions to individual students
- Assist with supervision and monitoring work of student groups
- Assist with supervision of students during recess, nap, snack, restroom periods and field trips
- Attend required in-service and/or staff development activities
- Perform other duties as assigned
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to work in variable environmental conditions related to temperature, humidity and other atmosphere conditions.
- Physical ability to do lifting of 10 lbs. or more, moderate lifting (up to 44 lbs.), talking, bending, kneeling, pulling, reaching, grasping, pushing, stooping, walking, standing, sitting, climbing, occasional running and the ability to move with agility.
- The ability to assist students with toileting and personal hygiene, feeding, mobility, positioning and seizure activity.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn behavior management intervention techniques.
- The ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
- The ability to understand and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to cope with biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
