The Senior Manager - Applications Engineer is responsible for leading the Applications Engineering team to providethe product knowledge and technical expertise to ensure that our customers are equipped to successfully install,operate and service the portfolio of hardware products through best in class documentation, training materials andin-person support. The portfolio of hardware products includes those built or assembled by PowerFlex, such as theNexus controls and monitoring platform, those resold by PowerFlex such as EVSE chargers, and major distributedenergy products that are purchased from strategic vendors such as energy storage systems, metering devices, andthird party control systems.
The Applications Engineering team is involved with product testing and development at PowerFlex and vendorfacilities. This experience is then translated into product support materials and knowledge available to internal andexternal customers. The application engineering team will relay feedback from the field to inform future productimprovements, as well as provide input on the technical product roadmap within Technologies
Responsibilities50% - Product Development Oversight:- Develop best in class documentation materials to support installation, operation, and commissioning ofhardware products- Contribute to product testing and certification activities and review testing and qualification procedures- Interface closely with hardware and software development teams to ensure that cohesive productdevelopments are successful with internal project teams- Partner with Project Development, Execution, Asset Management departments, and channel EPC partnerswith design, installation, and commissioning of PowerFlex products- Continually evaluate the best technical and commercial means to communicate product requirements withkey stakeholders- Develop training materials and conduct training where needed in the organization- Inform the product development teams on common failure modes or mistakes in implementation fromclient groups as well as propose potential solutions- Lead integration and strategic integration initiatives for key components, such as energy storage systemsand third-party control systems- Maintain an up to date, organized technical library for external customers and internal groups40% - Technical Project Oversight:- Conduct training and educate project execution team members with new products or product features- Contribute to design reviews for site implementations, plan sets, and single line diagrams for guidance oncorrect implementation practices- Provide first line of technical support for internal groups, such as execution and asset management- Develop subject matter expertise for all major products- Keep up to date with certification and regulatory requirements that are being applied to products in theSenior Manager - Applications Engineer 2 11/22field. Communicate these requirements with internal project execution groups as well as the productdevelopment groups- Provide field support for first article or key Beta product deployments- Maintain a list of subject matter experts and contacts for the organization7% - Management and Admin:- Hire, coach and mentor applications engineers and staff- Develop and maintain internal budget for technology development, prototyping and deployments- Lead internal corporate process improvement change management initiatives for technologies group andcollaborate partner teams on enterprise process improvement- Manage design-to-build procedures for implementation, maintenance of enterprise resource planning,and product lifecycle management tools- Develop a safety culture, set appropriate expectations, and prioritize safety improvement initiatives- Staff forecasting- Participate in defining and improving processes and workflows3% - Other duties as assigned
QualificationsEducation/Experience -- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Science or equivalent discipline, or the equivalentwork experience- Minimum five (5) years in technical solutions support or development position- Minimum three (3) years' experience in energy project development - C&I microgrid, solar & storage, electricvehicles- Minimum (2) years' experience in leading projects and teamsSkills/Knowledge/Abilities -- Lead by example and act as a mentor to those working under their supervision- Core competencies must include understanding of Electrical & Communications Diagrams, project plansets, technical writing- Ability to instill and maintain values of safety within team- Ability to conduct research and present solutions to management- Familiarity of FastField forms, Interconnection requirements, EVSE technologies desirable- Ability to work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced environment- Willingness to put the needs of his or her team over their own- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills- Strong problem-solving skills- Understanding of enterprise corporate environment- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products- Ability to work "on-call" or "off-hours" as appropriate- Clear and effective verbal and written communications.- Enjoy working on cross-functional teams- Professional appearance and demeanor- Able to distill complex ideas and technical concepts into simple & concise formats
