Job Description
Power System Technicians are responsible for maintaining the site power distribution system, troubleshooting issues, eliminating defects, and building technical mastery in Power Systems and electrical safety. They focus on initiating and implementing continuous improvement projects with the goal of delivering the best product, at the lowest cost, with the highest quality, and in a safe environment. They have electrical technical mastery to successfully troubleshoot problems and to proactively improve Power Systems. Power System technicians perform several types of work, such as:
Maintaining power distribution systems, switchgear, transformers and protective relays at various voltage levels including 480V, 2400V, 4160V, 13.2kV, 115kV
Responsible to keep single line drawings, short circuit studies, coordination studies, and arc flash hazard studies up to date.
Knowledgeable of and meets applicable electrical codes and laws.
Maintains equipment maintenance, repair, and test and inspection records.
Responds to Power System emergencies.
Ensures electrical installations are done correctly and meet applicable codes and standards.
Using electrical test equipment to diagnose electrical problems.
Performing preventive maintenance and calibrations on equipment
Troubleshooting and repairing machine and process control equipment
Building technical and electrical safety skills in others
Job Qualifications
Minimum of a high school diploma/GED & 2-year technical degree/certification in Industrial Electrical or >5 years’ experience in Industrial Power Systems
Applied electrical and controls skills in an industrial environment.
Knowledge and practical application with some of the following technology areas: Power system protective relays, transformers, power distribution systems rated from 13.2kV to 115kV
Strong technical troubleshooting, problem-solving, issue resolution, and root cause analysis for industrial electrical issues
Knowledge and practical application of electrical test equipment
Understands the Hazards and Safety associated with up to 15kV.
Able to read and use electrical schematics and single-line drawings.
Able to use electrical troubleshooting tools for measurements and analysis.
Interpersonal and teamwork skills
