Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of six health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Social Work, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill. The School teaches approximately 600 PharmD students and 145 graduate students. The School has built a reputation for its continued pursuit of excellence, rigorous education and training programs, cutting-edge multidisciplinary research, progressive pharmacy practices, efficient business operations, and its outstanding faculty, staff, and students. Position Summary
The Center for Innovative Pharmacy Education and Research (CIPhER). Founded in 2017, CIPhER's mission focuses broadly on improving the practice of pharmacy education and the quality and impact of research and scholarship on pharmacy education by coordinating and fostering the efforts of the Eshelman School of Pharmacy's faculty, clinical preceptors, postgraduate fellows, residents and teaching assistants. CIPhER aims to help faculty and others to more effectively: teach, assess and promote student learning; and produce peer-reviewed publications and compete for grants. CIPhER sponsors certificate offerings, contributes to continuing professional education, offers onsite and online training workshops and seminars, and coordinates relevant, mutually beneficial efforts with entities such as other UNC health science schools, the UNC School of Education, ACCP, AACP, and the PharmAlliance.
Position Summary. This post-doctoral scholar will work with an established team to research best practices in biomedical PhD training and implement and study of innovations in PhD training.
The post-doctoral training will provide exposure and mentored experience across the full range of educational research activities, including study design, data collection, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing.
Program Components
* 50% PhD Education Research: The postdoctoral fellow will join an existing research project team to evaluate current practices for PhD training.
* 50% Program management: The postdoctoral fellow will work with an existing team to implement innovative approaches to incorporate student-centered training into a PhD program.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD in Biological or Biomedical sciences (Pharmacology; Biology, Cell Biology, or Microbiology; Chemistry) or closely related field is required or a PhD in Education, Higher Education Administration, or Social Sciences (education, psychology, sociology)

- Professional Knowledge: Knowledge of research methods, including research design, data collection, analysis techniques (quantitative and/or qualitative), and interpretation of results. Ability to manage and analyze data from multiple projects and contexts. Ability to identify new research questions and inquiry opportunities, disseminate new findings to multiple stakeholders, and make recommendations for implementing improvements or changes.
- Collaboration: Ability to apply knowledge and understanding of Center purpose, culture, issues, and work relationships within and between the School, University, and outside collaborators to promote the Center's agenda. Ability to share perceptions, knowledge and critical thinking as needed. Ability to promote the use of best practices to achieve shared CIPhER goals.
- Communication: Ability to communicate scholarly ideas and findings effectively in various venues, including conferences, committees, publications, and group meetings. Ability to build, maintain and enhance professional relationships to increase credibility and effectiveness of the Center. Ability to help promote and market the Center with increasing visibility as the Center continues to grow and expand. Ability to apply creativity to development of strategies and functions.
