Position Summary
A post-doctoral position is available for a highly motivated scientist in the Department of Neurology in the Section of Multiple Sclerosis (Gregory Wu, PI) at the Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. Our lab conducts translational research with a focus on treatment of autoimmune diseases affecting the central nervous system (wuneuroimmunology.com/). The Wu lab is focused on identifying the traits of CSF myeloid cells in neuroinflammation (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32371549/) and the application of CAR T cells to the treatment of neuroinflammation. Our group is highly collaborative with basic programs in immunology and neuroscience at Washington University in St. Louis. The ideal candidate will be a recent PhD graduate able to independently develop, guide, and complete research projects.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
The expertise/experiences preferred for this position include:
  • Fundamental knowledge of immunology.
  • Prior experience in working with animal model systems is highly desirable.
  • Expertise in basic molecular/cell biology/immunology techniques including molecular cloning, nucleic acid isolation, PCR, protein expression analysis, flow cytometry, cell culture, Western blot, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, and microscopy.
  • Experience with primary cell cultures is a strong positive, but not a requirement.
  • Experience handling human immune cells is a strong positive, but not a requirement.
  • Basic statistical and computational knowledge is highly desirable.
  • Excellent oral communication and written skills, with good organizational and analytical abilities.

Required Qualifications
  • Candidates should have a Ph.D. in a biological science such as immunology, neuroscience, virology, biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, or other related fields.
  • Applicants need to be self-motivated, fast learners, critical thinkers, and enthusiastic about science and biomedical research.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A track record of scientific productivity is essential, and preference will be given to candidates with strong first-author publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
  • The salary will be according to NIH guideline, and commensurate with experience.

Working Conditions
This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Salary Range
Base pay is commensurate with experience.
