Position Summary
The IUPUI Arts & Humanities Institute (IAHI) seeks a Postdoctoral Research Appointee who will be in residence at the IAHI from Spring 2023 through Spring 2024 (1 Year, Full-Time Appointment). This position is open to early career scholars studying the arts, social sciences, and humanities from a broad range of fields (e.g. urban anthropology, visual anthropology, cultural anthropology, human geography, public humanities, digital humanities), but whose research fundamentally integrates interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary methods and theoretical frameworks.
The IAHI Postdoctoral Research Program aims to create a legacy of scholars with rich experience in collaborative, interdisciplinary, and publicly engaged research across the arts, humanities, and social sciences. This program is designed not only to nurture the academic careers of early career scholars by providing opportunities to pursue innovative research while gaining mentoring from IAHI affiliates and faculty, but also offer early career scholars a platform from which to transition to careers outside of academia.
The Postdoctoral Research Appointee will be under the supervision of the IAHI Director and will be a key member of the IAHI research team. The Postdoctoral Research Appointee will:
•Participate in IAHI research projects and public arts and humanities under the supervision of the IAHI Director. These projects include Rivers of the Anthropocene (rivers.iupui.edu); the Cultural Ecologies Project (culturalecologies.org); and Speculative Play and Just Futurities (spjf.org).
•Work alongside the IAHI Director to frame and engage the IAHI within national and international conversations relating to interdisciplinary scholarship in the arts and humanities through attendance at conferences and workshops.
•Support the IAHI Director and research group in the design and development of research instruments, grants, peer-reviewed publications, and public programming. This includes working with the IAHI Director to identify, develop, and apply for major grants focused on developing the IAHI's research projects and programs.
•Participate in appropriate training and professional development opportunities as required by the IAHI Director.
•Play an active role in the day-to-day activities of the Institute as required by the IAHI Director.
The Postdoctoral Research Appointee is expected to maintain their research profile and pursue an independent research that they will move forward during the appointment.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
35% Project Planning and Implementation:
Participate in research as well as the coordination of public arts and humanities events, special projects, and activities. Confer regularly with IAHI Director to plan and coordinate activities. May serve on occasion as point person at events.
20% Community Engagement:
Participate as a liaison with community partners, including individuals and organizations. This may include being initiating new relationships on behalf of the IAHI.
25% Grant Writing
Write grant proposals in collaboration with IAHI Director. May include preparing literature reviews and meeting with collaborators.
20% Independent Research
Pursue an independent research project while in residence.
LEVEL OF DECISION MAKING:
This position will assist the Director of the IAHI in implementing projects.
SCOPE AND IMPACT:
This position will partner with internal (academic and administrative) and external (academic, non-profit, and corporate) groups and individuals as necessary.

Basic Qualifications
Required Education: PhD in a field in the humanities or qualitative social sciences.
Required Experience: Experience working with publics outside of the university. Experience in organizing and managing multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
Preferred Experience:Familiarity with the arts and culture sector in central Indiana. Experience in public arts and humanities work. Experience in grant writing.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills
Maintains a high degree of professionalism
Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills
Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
Seeks to acquire knowledge beyond area of specialty
Preferred Knowledge:
Facility using Microsoft Office, Slack, Asana
