Postdoctoral Fellow In Neurological Surgery - Spinal Cord And Brain Injury Research Group

Position Details

Indiana University School of Medicine is seeking to fill a post doctoral position in Dr. Ling-Xiao Deng's laboratory at the Stark Neurosciences Research Institute and Department of Neurological Surgery. The project aims to investigate the potential of a pharmacological approach to protect the spinal cord from traumatic injury in a rodent model. Specifically, the study will explore whether this approach can activate multiple signal pathways to synergistically provide unique and effective neuroprotection, ultimately improving motor, sensory, and bladder functions after spinal cord injury ( SCI). The project will employ a wide range of neuroscience and urodynamic techniques, including SCI animal models, cystometry, and electromyography to measure bladder and external urethral sphincter function, transsynaptic neuronal tracing, motor and sensory functional evaluation, pharmacological interventions, and molecular biology and histology.

The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in neuroscience and experience in working with the rodent central nervous system. They should be able to work independently, highly motivated, and enthusiastic. The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for conducting neuro-urinary experiments, analyzing data, writing manuscripts, preparing fellowship grants (though salary support is guaranteed), and assisting in mentoring students and technicians. This position offers the opportunity to gain comprehensive research training in post- SCI functional evaluation for pursuing higher academic goals in the future.

Doctorate or terminal degree required. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in neuroscience or related disciplines, possess basic skills in animal surgery, histology and microscopy, have a good publication record, and be proficient in English (written and spoken).

Although 0-3 years of postdoctoral experience is preferred, priority will be given to those beyond the requirement possessing related specialties, such as electrophysiology and experiences with transgenic animal and urinary system.

This position will be available until filled. Salary will be based on NIH scale commensurate with experience and capability.
