Job Description Summary
* IMPORTANT NOTE: APPLICANTS MUST be currently enrolled at ULV and have a FEDERAL WORK STUDY award to be eligible for this position. *
The Language Arts Development Workshop Leader should have a desire for deepening their understanding of social justice and child development as well as the Language Arts. An interest in research and statistical analysis is helpful. Creativity and the ability to address the needs of individual children are a must!
The main task for the Language Arts Development Workshop Leader will be to prepare a weekly lesson plan and teach a weekly workshop for K-8th grade students.
The starting pay for this position is $17.00 per hour.
Specific Duties
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design and administer incoming assessment to gauge academic ability of students in Language Arts

  • With the help of in-house materials and/or other resources researched and obtained by the intern, organize common-core based Language Arts curriculum to direct student learning according to the student's individual needs to obtain the highest possible achievement

  • Execute curriculum during weekly workshop time (30-40 minutes per week).

  • Tutor during at least one homework time per week to better understand student school work and work styles
  • Compile curriculum of lesson plans that can be utilized by the program in the future
  • Design and administer end of semester assessment; gather research on test scores and other measure of student success at end of the semester
  • Assist staff with program preparations at least 1 hour/week
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a current University of La Verne student with Federal Work Study eligibility for the 2023-2024 academic year
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a highly interactive environment
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • General clerical and organizational skills
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Takes initiative and a self-starter

Preferred Qualifications
  • Access to personal computer to complete work-study assignments

Benefits Summary
Employees are eligible for the following benefits:
One hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 30 hours worked, with a maximum accrual of 24 hours of Paid Sick Leave per year and capped at 48 hours.
University of La Verne Defined Contribution Retirement Plan - can contribute employee voluntary contributions, excluding wages derived from federal work study funds.
In accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), employees who work an average of 30 or more hours per week, will be eligible for medical coverage through the University of La Verne.
Covered under the University of La Verne Workers Compensation Insurance.
