GENERAL SUMMARY
To perform a wide variety of tasks in support of the law enforcement and crime prevention functions; investigate and work any other special assignments; perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the Police department.
SUPERVISION
General supervision is provided by the Police Shift Sergeant
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Adhere and comply with the City of Mt. Juliet Personnel/Police Policy and Procedure Manual.
- Prepare reports on crimes and activities; attend roll call, briefings and administrative meetings.
- Participate in firearms training in order to maintain proficiency; participate in training for and operation of other applicable law enforcement equipment and weapons for POST Certification.
- Use departmental computer equipment to input, review and gain records, information and other various data; write reports on accidents, arrests, investigations, and other involvement in law enforcement related activities.
- Participate in a variety of law enforcement activities and programs including, but not limited to making arrest of suspects in traffic and criminal offenses, executing search warrants, issuing citations, appearing in court for criminal, civil and other law enforcement related matters, attending roll call meetings; conduct surveillance if needed; apprehend offenders; conduct interviews and/or interrogations with various persons relevant to investigations, arrests, complaints and other law enforcement matters.
- Interact and work with citizens regarding existing and potential law enforcement and crime prevention problems; preserve good relationships with the general public; continually take an active role in educating the public.
- Patrol business and residential areas; respond to alarms; enforce traffic and parking laws and ordinances; respond to and investigate traffic accidents; assist motorists in distress; operate MDC (mobile data computer), speed detection and traffic control devices, and other police equipment as appropriate.
- Respond to emergency calls.
- Participate in investigations, when necessary, involving crimes against person and/or property; secure crime scenes; preserve evidence; direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic; maintain crowd control; interview witnesses, complainants and suspects; initiate and prepare field reports about offenses or crimes.
- Mediate civil and domestic disputes.
- Confiscate and document and illegal, stolen or found property.
- Respond to and assist with emergency medical situations as appropriate; respond to and assist with other emergency management calls, disasters or other extraordinary events.
- Participate in a variety of technical investigative activities involved in identifying and prosecuting persons responsible for the commission of criminal offenses.
- Prepare and testify in court or other legal proceedings.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate with the police department or other legal officials as needed.
- Provide assistance to persons with complaints or requests.
- Completes required reports.
- May participate in other operations such as undercover, stakeouts and other intelligence gathering activities as deemed necessary.
- Preserve, evaluate and record physical and trace evidence at crime scenes when necessary.
- May meet with school administrators and teachers in regards to educational and community programs; interact with students participating in educational programs to provide information and answer questions.
- May collect, package, transport, secure, document, and inventory impound property.
- Report conditions to other city, county, state or other agencies that require immediate attention.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or equivalent. Must be at least 21 years of age.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid Tennessee driver’s license.
- Certification as a Peace Officer by the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (P.O.S.T). (Required)
- Legal qualification, under the laws of the United States of America and the State of Tennessee to possess firearms and ammunition.
- No felony or serious misdemeanor convictions involving Moral Turpitude as the term is defined by the law and not to have been released or discharged under any other than Honorable conditions from any of the Armed Forces of the U.S.
- Citizen of the United States.
- Have fingerprints on file with the TBI
