The Danville Police Department is a proactive law enforcement agency supported by its administration, City leaders, Council, and community. The City of Danville, Illinois is seeking and accepting applications from those interested in applying for the position of Police Officer.
This position is classified as entry-level.

Officer’s competitive contract includes:
- Entry Level Officers
o Starting salary while in training - $62,661
o Salary upon successful field training - $70,491
o Salary upon successful completion of 18 month (from hire date) probationary period $78,323

Danville Police Department’s rank structure is Officer/Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Deputy Chief, and Chief of Police.
All Police Officer candidates must be able to successfully pass physical agility, a written test, an oral interview, and medical and psychological testing. All candidates are required to have a high school diploma or equivalent. A thorough background investigation is required for all candidates prior to consideration for hire. All candidates must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to appointment and be eligible to carry a firearm in the State of Illinois. Each candidate must be 21 to 35 years of age at the beginning of Basic Law Enforcement training.
This position is responsible for the handling of law enforcement activity including, but not limited to, responding to calls for service, assigned tasks and details, and self-initiated contacts. The Police Officer works directly with citizens and assists in resolving problems/conflicts, as well as representing the City of Danville in a courteous, helpful and professional manner. The Officer reports to a Police Sergeant or assigned supervisor.
