POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the Podiatrist will be responsible for diagnosing, treating, and helping to prevent disorders related to the feet, ankle, and lower leg. The Podiatrist will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to offer comprehensive podiatric care to our patients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Evaluate the condition of a patient's feet, ankles, or lower legs by reviewing their medical history, listening to their concerns, and performing physical examinations.
- Diagnose foot, ankle, and lower-leg problems through physical exams, x-rays, medical laboratory tests, and other methods.
- Provide treatment for foot, ankle, and lower leg ailments, such as prescribing special shoe inserts (orthotics), medications, and physical therapy.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians, nurses, and physical therapists, to provide holistic care.
- Refers to outside clinicians and assists in arranging care for podiatric surgical procedures.
- Provides the following procedures: nail debridement, callus trimmings, wart excision, ingrown nail excision, injection therapy (corticosteroids, local anesthetics), diabetic foot and wound care management, excision cutaneous skin lesions, nail matrixectomy, skin ulcer treatment (debridement), strapping/splinting/taping of the foot and ankle, and closed reductions of minor foot fractures and other minor outpatient podiatric procedures, orthotic and shoe modifications in the general population.
- Educate patients on foot and ankle care and preventive measures.
- Maintain patient records and comply with all healthcare regulations.
- Give and follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from an accredited college.
- CA license to practice podiatric medicine.
- Board certification in Podiatry.
- Current DEA License.
- Strong diagnostic skills and the ability to interpret diagnostic tests.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- At least 2 years of clinical experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to be sensitive with persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
- Experience with Outlook email function and EMR.
- Good judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Post job offer: CPR/BLS certification, TB test, and annual flu shot (during flu season) are required as a condition of employment, unless a medical/religious accommodation request is provided. Hepatitis B Vaccine will be offered at no cost to employees, but it is not required.
DRUG SCREEN
Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians requires the successful completion of a drug screening of all potential Tribal employees prior to being hired. The Tribe recognizes that the State of California has legalized the use of marijuana. The Tribe is located on federally owned trust land and complies with federal laws. Therefore, marijuana use is prohibited, and all drug tests will include a screening for THC.
Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians recognizes a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy, and employees will be required to sign a Consent to Drug and/or Alcohol Testing. Employees may be selected for alcohol / drug testing upon reasonable suspicion, and upon any/all accidents.

Candidates for this position will be subject to criminal and character background checks and fingerprinting prior to being hired. Verification of previous employment and education will also be conducted after the interview if an offer of employment is being considered.

Preference in hiring is given to either the most qualified applicant or a Native American candidate who meets the minimum qualifications. When two (2) or more Native American candidates have comparable qualifications, the following order of preference shall apply: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (4) All other documented Native Americans; (5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473.
