This position performs plumbing inspections of new and existing construction for compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and statutes.
Starting salary: Depending on qualifications $29.8166 - $40.2521 per hour
Schedule: Exact schedule TBD, 40 hours per week

Essential Job Functions The job functions listed herein are neither exclusive nor exhaustive, but are intended to be illustrative of the types of tasks the employee will most likely be expected to perform on a regular basis.   • Inspects plumbing systems in new and existing commercial or residential structures for compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and statutes.
  • Responds to inquiries from architects, contractors and citizens regarding code interpretations and compliance; assists in plan review for conformance with codes before permits are issued.
  • Works with architects and contractors for conformity of plans; examines plans and specifications; recommends approval or denial of permits.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records of all permits and inspections.
  • Maintains all job required certifications by participating in continuing education and keeping current with code changes.
  • Makes recommendations to keep codes current and effective.
  • Assists other inspectors as needed.

Graduation from high school and at least 2 years of specialized training in plumbing and/or building trades, plus at least 4 - 6 years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills:
Knowledge of
  • Plumbing methods and techniques.
  • Applicable plumbing codes, ordinances and statutes.
  • Modern inspection methods and procedures.
  • Occupational hazards and safety methods and techniques used to avoid or minimize risks.
  • The use of standard office equipment including computers and relevant software.
Ability to
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Understand and carry out instructions.
  • Multitask and prioritize workload.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers and the general public.
Skill in
  • Performing plumbing inspections and identifying hazards and code violations.
  • Oral and written communications.
Necessary Special Requirements
  • Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services Certificates: Commercial Plumbing Inspector, UDC Plumbing Inspector.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license.
