About This Role:
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Platform Engineering team. The Platform Engineering team plays a crucial role in designing, building, and maintaining the core infrastructure and platforms that power our products and services. Engineering Managers at PayIt are smart, mission-driven, and afforded a high degree of responsibility and autonomy. Engineering Managers are expected to lead teams to meet commitments, grow individuals in their careers, and be highly collaborative with adjacent product, design, and client-facing teams.
This role is ideally based out of our Kansas City office; however, highly qualified remote candidates in AR, FL, GA, IA, IL, KS, MI, MO, NC, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, and WIwill also be considered.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Build and maintain 1-2 teams of 3-5 high-performing engineers.
- Set goals with and provide regular, constructive feedback to individuals and the team.
- Collaboratively set the team's quarterly commitments and provide updates to leadership on execution progress, risks, and timeline.
- Guide team in triage and resolution of production issues with careful assessment of impact on infrastructure or service operations.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers within the engineering organization.
- Work closely with engineering leaders and stakeholders to help define technical roadmaps
- Champion a customer-centric approach to DevOps, ensuring internal engineering teams receive robust and efficient solutions.
- Help teams adopt a shared responsibility model for infrastructure, and engender an SRE mindset on the current Platform Engineering team.
What You'll Need To Have:
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
- Strong technical background in Platform Engineering, including experience with AWS services (Azure experience is a plus).
- Strong understanding of best practices and industry standards for performance, encryption, security, scalability, and availability in distributed systems.
- Experience with programming and scripting languages; Java, and/or Python preferred.
- Interest in determining and applying appropriate technical designs to solve the needs for the customers of the Platform Engineering team.
- Rigor in automated testing, code quality, and engineering best practices.
- Experience with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices and tools, including Jenkins and GitHub Actions.
Bonus Points For:
- A proven history of managing successful, autonomous development teams.
- Experience managing remote software engineering teams.
- Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Serverless Framework.
- Experience working with Javascript/Typescript
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK stack.
- Familiarity with OpenTelemetry is a plus.
- Experience with Mulesoft and/or Apache NiFi
- Experience building reliable systems that handle large transactional volume.
