Summary – basic function of the role

Responsible for operating and maintaining machines that extrude plastic pellets via an underwater pelletizing system. Perform a variety of tasks within assigned Extrusion Production Area

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up, start, and operate plastic extruder equipment.
  • Observe the production of plastic pellets and makes necessary adjustments to equipment to maintain proper production rate and quality objectives.
  • Set up, start, and operate miscellaneous machinery input for extrusion processes.
  • Follow manufacturing standard, quality procedures, and working instruction.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Perform daily preventative maintenance measures to keep the machines in top operating condition.
  • Diagnose problems with machines and report them to the maintenance team to resolve.
  • Observe and monitor the machines throughout the production run.
  • Keep track of all materials used for each job and segregate the production material from the scrapped material.
  • Conduct quality inspections on products and parts and troubleshoot where and when needed.
  • Ensure equipment is operating correctly to produce high quality product.
  • Perform a variety of jobs within the production process up to and including prepping product for shipment.
  • Fill out daily production spreadsheets for traceability.
  • Comply with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and all other Safety/OSHA requirements.
  • Consistently adhere to and support company policies, Work Instructions and/or other procedures, and requirements.
  • Compliance with all local, state and federal requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Education Requirements: High School diploma or GED preferred.

Experience Requirements: 2+ years as Extrusion Operator and/or 3+ years in manufacturing environment in position such as machine operator or maintenance operator

Physical Demands

Ability to lift 1-50 pounds frequently, and intermittently up to 75 pounds. Employee may have to lift documents/work materials up to 75 pounds (assisted lift) in weight. Employee will have to be able to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations. Employee will need to listen, understand, and speak with team members at all levels within a diverse workforce. Employee will stand 100% of workday occasionally bends 90 degrees and occasionally twist 45 degrees.

Work Environment

Primary work environment is non-climate-controlled workshop/manufacturing facility where following appropriate safety protocols at the location would be required. Employee will be exposed to heavy levels of noise in workshop.

What You'll Need

  • Possess specific fundamental knowledge of hydraulics/pneumatics, lubrication, gearboxes, extruders and mobile equipment operation.
  • Hands on light maintenance and repair abilities.
  • Ability to work a 3rd shift schedule, which will require Nights, and potential Weekends
  • Must be able to work overtime and cross train as required.
  • On Call rotation within the department for off hours and emergencies.
  • Ability to work with exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, dust, fumes and mists, uneven surfaces, loud noise, and confined spaces.
  • Capable of performing a wide range of physical activities which include pulling, reaching, bending, climbing, and kneeling, Ability to carry 50lbs.
  • Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment, with a strong work ethic and attention to detail to find root cause for equipment/product failures.
  • Basic computer skills such as familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred.
  • Demonstrates dependability in attendance, work completions, and flexibility to meet business needs.
  • Strong communication skills required. Must read, speak, and understand English language in verbal and written communication.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour

Supplemental Pay:
