Job description

The Plant Engineering organization provides engineering oversight, program support, and qualified staff to support the Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) mission. Near term support is provided by the Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC). The mission includes safely storing, treating, and immobilizing the highly hazardous radiological wastes created during prior periods of nuclear processing at the Hanford Reservation. The Plant Engineering organization and programs provide the framework for executing engineering work. Plant Engineering personnel are responsible for the technical adequacy of Plant Engineering products and decisions.

The Responsible Engineering team own the technical and quality requirements needed to support the procurement of spare/aging/obsolete components specific to mechanical and electrical systems within the facility. Responsible Engineers will learn how to efficiently develop the technical requirements and work with Suppliers to allow for delivery of components to support plant operations.

This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC.

MAJORRESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

  • Work with internal and external customers to achieve objectives

  • Routinely re-evaluate work priorities of ongoing work to align with project needs and achieve efficiencies to minimized delay in work

  • Integrate daily engineering activities with other Plant Engineering disciplines, maintenance, and operations

  • Integrate organizational values and vision related to quality and safety

  • Generate technical requirements and specifications for equipment and component procurements

  • Generate quality verification plans for equipment and component procurements

  • Resolve obsolescence discrepancies

  • Review for accuracy written technical reports on assigned activities

  • Review for accuracy written management procedures

  • Ensure the health and safety of self and staff by implementing the principles of Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS)

  • Ensure that personal conduct of work is consistent with nuclear safety and quality culture expectations

  • Complete required training and maintain qualifications associated with assignments

  • Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work.

  • Undertake tasks as assigned (competence permitting)

REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline or related science from a four-year accredited college or university

Experience:

  • Fifteen (15) years – Background consistent with education requirements

  • Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.)

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in processing facilities, DOE facilities, or DOD facilities

  • Experience with national consensus codes and standards

  • Experience developing technical and quality requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

(EFNM) Exposed Field Non-Manual- Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operation. Arranges for and/or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal and informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting. Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing of personal protective equipment. Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $128,402.60 - $206,078.53 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Must be able to work in the United States without Sponsorship

Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy (DOE) badge for access to the Hanford site.
