JOB DESCRIPTION
WHO WE ARE

Supported by more than 3,400 employees in nearly 100 locations across the United States, we provide a full continuum of engineering and consulting services, including design, planning, architectural, environmental, construction, and program management. Our clients include U.S. federal, state, and municipal governments, and a wide range of private commercial and residential development clients. Michael Baker is committed to delivering a standard of excellence that fosters a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technological advancement to help solve our clients' complex challenges.

PLANNING PRACTICE
We create, integrate, visualize and communicate planning concepts as they move from the initial vision through implementation. Our planning professionals build strong client partnerships, working with residents, businesses, developers, educational and medical organizations, state and local governments, the military, and other federal agencies to successfully plan the future of their communities or institutions. At Michael Baker International, we focus on people and places, improving communities, and creating more sustainable, convenient, equitable, healthful, efficient, and attractive places.
DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker's Housing Team specializes in implementing housing policies and programs, conducting housing related research, providing analysis and recommendations and developing a range of planning documents. We get to tackle California's affordable housing crisis head-on. We share a sense of purpose and enjoy the gratification that comes from helping lower- and moderate-income individuals and families to stay in their communities and become homebuyers for the first time. Clients turn to us time and time again to administer and improve affordable housing programs (inclusionary/below market rate); down payment assistance and rehabilitation loan programs; and federal, state, and local grant programs (HCD, HUD, CDBG, HOME, LIHTC, NSP). Our team also specializes in facilitating public outreach and stakeholder involvement, including online surveys, open house forums, focus groups and interviews.

We are currently seeking an entry level Planner (Planner I) to join a team of experienced community planners, housing specialists, urban designers, environmental analysts, community engagement specialists, and project managers dedicated to having a positive impact through effective planning. The ideal candidate will be driven, intellectually curious, committed to excellence, eager to make a difference in the communities we serve, and ready to tackle the complicated and critically important issues that we face in California, especially the affordable housing crisis.

  • Experience with local, state, and federal agencies
  • 1 year of community organizing, community building, or community engagement
