Job Description
Currently seeking skilled tradespersons responsible for constructing and maintaining pipe systems used for heating, hot water, cooling, steam, and other applications. They ensure that pipes are cut, installed, and maintained according to specifications. Additionally, they may engage in welding tasks related to pipe installation.
Responsibilities
As a Pipefitter / Pipewelder, your duties will include:
Pipe Installation:
- Cutting, Assembling, and Installing Pipes: Measure, cut, and assemble pipes according to blueprints and project requirements.
- Repairing Malfunctions: Identify and repair pipe system malfunctions, leaks, or breakages.
- Testing Systems: Conduct tests to ensure the safety and functionality of pipe systems.
Blueprint Interpretation:
- Reviewing Blueprints: Understand project requirements by reviewing blueprints and specifications.
- Setting and Modifying Specifications: Set and adjust specifications based on project needs.
Site Preparation:
- Inspecting and Preparing Sites: Inspect work sites and prepare them for pipe installation and maintenance operations.
- Measuring and Cutting Pipes: Measure and cut pipes accurately to fit the installation requirements.
Welding and Assembly:
- Welding and Assembling Pipes: Weld and assemble pipes using appropriate techniques (e.g., arc welding, gas welding).
- Lubricating and Securing Pipes: Ensure proper lubrication and secure pipes using clamps or other fastening methods.
Hydraulic and Other Systems:
- Testing Functionality: Test hydraulic and other pipe systems to verify their functionality.
- Collaborating with Other Workers: Work alongside other professionals (e.g., plumbers, painters) to complete construction projects.
Safety and Maintenance:
- Follow Safety Guidelines: Adhere to safety protocols and use protective equipment (e.g., goggles).
- Use and Maintain Tools: Operate and maintain tools such as pneumatic drills and saws.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, you should have:
- Apprenticeship Completion: Typically, pipefitters complete an apprenticeship program.
- Skills:
- Knowledge of cutting and welding methods.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Familiarity with tools and equipment used in pipefitting (e.g., pneumatic drills).
- Experience:
- Ideally, experience in both residential and industrial settings.
- Familiarity with pipes made from different materials (e.g., steel, PVC).
