PIPEFITTER JOURNEYMAN/APPRENTICE

 Principal Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Read and understand single-line drawings, double-line drawings, isometrics, shop fabrication drawings, and mechanical schematics.
  • Select the size and type of pipe, and related materials and equipment such as support, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.
  • Assemble and install piping systems such as ductile iron, PVC, steel, copper, stainless steel pipe, and black iron.
  • Cuts pipe, using saws, pipe cutter, grinder, cutting torch, and pipe-cutting machine.
  • Connects pipes using threaded, welded, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints, and hand tools.
  • Install and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic components on machines and equipment, such as pumps and cylinders using hand tools.
  • Install and maintain compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping, using hand tools and power tools, and following specifications and blueprints.
  • Test piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks.

Education:

  • High school diploma/GED.

Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Pipe Fitter.
  • Excellent mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and maintain strong attention to detail.
  • Good communication and managerial skills.
  • Trade school education or apprenticeship.
  • Meet state licensure requirements.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Willing to be registered through the local union.
  • Must be highly motivated; Communication, Common-Sense and Safety cannot be stressed enough.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
    • Familiarity with all relevant techniques and tools needed to perform your duties.
  • Exceptional physical fitness and hand-eye coordination.
  • Capacity to operate independently.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Willingness to avail yourself beyond normal working hours.

Physical and/or travel demands:

  • Must have the necessary physical stamina; to include, but not limited to, long-term overhead work.
  • Must be able to work for extended hours or workdays.
  • Must be careful during work to avoid injury (get help lifting, steps and ladder safety, etc.).
  • Must be able to work with powered construction tools safely.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
  • Must be able to pass drug screen at any given time during employment.
