Pipewelder Job Description
· Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints and specifications to determine welding requirements.
· Operate welding machinery and tools to join, fabricate, and repair metal components and structures.
· Working knowledge of various welding techniques and materials, and the properties of various welding rods and fluxes used in welding metals.
· Determine the materials and position most suitable for a welding operation. Determine required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
· Set up welding equipment including selecting proper settings for voltage, current, and gas flow. Ensure welding equipment is in good working order and scheduled for service regularly. Monitor and maintain welding equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
· Select appropriate welding methods and tools, such as torches and their proper tips, and consumable materials, such as the appropriate filler rods, according to welding chart specifications and product type, based on project specifications and materials being used.
· Perform various welding tasks with precision and attention to detail ensuring high-quality welds and strong structural integrity. Conduct assessments to verify workpieces are free of defect and conform to set specifications.
· Inspect welded joints and structures to identify and address defects or imperfections. Monitor welding processes to avoid shrinking, expansion or distortion of workpieces.
· Adhere to all safety requirements including wearing appropriate protective gear during welding operations, keeping the work area free of cables and consumable debris, and proper handling and storage of hazardous materials and gas bottles. Monitor work environment to ensure healthy ventilation levels are maintained during welding to reduce the risk of gas inhalation.
· Strong self-directed and proactive work ethic. Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail, and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
· Performing the essential functions of this job will require but are not limited to the use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools, and/or controls. Able to sit, walk, talk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly and without assistance. Ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, ladders, and negotiate work areas under construction in adverse weather conditions. Work may be performed in ditches and elevated work platforms. Vision abilities required to perform this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to wear approved eye protection. The person must have the ability to hear bells, alarms, whistles, etc. May be exposed to loud machinery or equipment, fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
Required: 3+ years experience welding pipe in an industrial setting to ASME Boiler and Pressure vessel codes. Ability to pass an SMAW/stick carbon steel pipe test, welded in the 6G position- 6010 root 7018 fill/hot pass, double pass cap on a 2-inch pipe.
