Pick & Place Technician

Reports to

Inventory Control / Assembly Production Supervisor

Classification

Non - Exempt – Full Time

Position summary

The basic function of the Pick & Place Technician is to build high quality printed circuit boards utilizing our surface mount technology (SMT) machines to meet our production needs. The Pick & Place Technician is responsible for all activity performed within the scope of PCB manufacturing, including raw material organization, running production, quality inspection, rework, and the basic maintenance of machines used for this purpose. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Programing and loading of components into the Pick & Place machine.
  • Operation of the Pick & Place Machine and Reflow Oven.

· Pick and verify correct part numbers being used for the specific job being run.

  • Select proper stencil screen, use of manual solder paste stencil machine.

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, “BOM” Bill of Material, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and written work instructions.

· Record and process component usage in ERP system.

· Inspect soldered boards to detect substandard soldering, or component placement.

  • Manual soldering, and rework of SMT components.
  • Programing of boards.
  • The use of scopes for inspection/repairs.
  • Change feeders, splice reels.
  • Use of jigs and test equipment.
  • Responsible for proper storage and inventory of components.
  • Utilize soldering equipment such as soldering iron and solder sucker.
  • Assemble electrical components onto PC boards. (Integrated Circuits, Diodes, Resistors, wires, switches, etc.…).
  • Inspect parts prior to assembling.
  • Routine light duty maintenance.
  • The use of various equipment and handheld tools as required.
  • Meet production real time production standards.
  • Pick and Place Technician is part of the Assembly Team and will assist in other assembly capacities at times.

· Other duties, responsibilities, and directives that may be assigned by management are expected to be performed.

Qualifications/Experience

High school diploma or equivalent with 1 to 2 years’ experience with Pick & Place operation and excelled soldering experience.

· Knowledge of Electro-static discharge (ESD) precautions.

· Well-versed with manual soldering and rework of SMT components.

· Knowledge of basic electronics and component identification.

· Well-versed with functioning and controls of pick-and-place machine and reflow oven operation.

· Adept with basic programming and loading of components.

· Intermediate computer skills and the ability to use Microsoft applications and ERP, MRP systems.

· Experience with hot air soldering a plus but not required.

  • Motivated team player.
  • Ability to communicate well.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Lean Manufacturing experiences a plus but not required.
  • Good hand to eye coordination.

· Strong sense of time, organization, and urgency.

  • Experience using soldering and common hand tools.
  • Basic math skills

· Able to work independently and within a team.

Working Conditions

This is an indoor job requiring extensive repetitive use of hand tools and the ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in a temperature and humidity-controlled environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Use of hands is required to occasionally operate various equipment and hand tools.
  • Must be able to read and understand BOM’s, work instructions, test procedures, etc.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of work positions including standing, sitting, pushing, pulling, viewing a microscope, and squatting.
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, the employee must always ask for help with lifting items that weigh over 50 lbs.
  • Required to follow all safety policies and wear safety glasses and other personal protective equipment as required.
