Job Description
HCA Solutions is currently seeking qualified candidates to serve as an autonomous Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitionerfor the Halifax Correctional Unit #23 in South Boston, VA!
The position is contract, part-time, with long term placement. Schedule is one (1) day per week, eight (8) hours per day.
Provide Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner services which includes, but is not limited to:
• Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services for the inmate
• Take medical histories, examine patients, and order and interpret laboratory tests and x-rays
• Make a diagnosis, provide treatment plans and prescribe medications
• Clinically manage injuries by suturing, splinting, and immobilizing
• Attend to medical emergencies
• Record progress notes, recommend clinically necessary outside consultation, instruct and counsel, and order or carry out therapy
• Emergency consultation to be performed by the contractor in instances where deemed necessary. Perform minor surgery utilizing local anesthesia during consultation visits
• Work collaboratively with the staff physician(s) and consulting physician(s) in planning, instituting, evaluating and revising program plans
• Assists in determining conditions, resources and policies essential to delivery of the health care services
• Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems
• Manages the daily operation of the clinic and conducts daily sick call; which may include securing health histories from the patient, recording findings and providing clinical evaluations
• Administers and documents medications accurately according to policy/procedure and physician orders. Administers immunizations and tuberculin skin testing as ordered.
• Provides a wide range of emergency services, in the absence of the physician
Requirements- Valid and current registration as a professional Physician Assistant/ Nurse Practitioner
- Minimum of 3 years recent experience in acute care, ambulatory care, Medical/Surgical or psychiatric care facility.
- One year, or more, of experience in a correctional environment is preferred, but not required
- Experience in a correctional health care setting preferred, but not required.
- Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- ACLS certification, preferred.
- Current Negative TB Test Results
- Proof of any vaccinations, including Hepatitis B and COVID -19
