Job Description:
Provides leadership and strategic medical direction for NeonatalIntensive Care Unit (Level III NICU) to advance performance. This position willchampion provider growth and development, innovation, continuous improvement,and will be accountable to achieve NICU specific and Neonatology related goals.
Scope
The Medical Director for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a leadership role withparticipation expectations reporting to the Chair, Women and Infants. TheMedical Director is responsible for several core areas;
1) Clinical leadershipfor the facility's neonatology clinicians/providers (Neonatologists - 5.5 FTE's/NeonatalAPP's - 4.4 FTE's)
2) Management ofclinical operations for neonatology
3)Partners with hospital leaders to optimize quality, safety, and operations ofnewborn care within the hospital
4) Partners with Obstetric/Neonatal Operationsand Leadership to develop standards for neonatal care.
The Medical Director works collaboratively with Neonatology and Newborn leadersacross JPS including Acute Care (OB/Neo Operations), Clinical Programs,Clinical Services, Office of Patient Experience, Hospital Administration,Hospital CMO, etc. Physician shall be credentialed and privileged at JPS Healthand will have a clinical practice as well as time supporting administrativeduties and supporting direct reports.
Essential Job Duties
Provide medical direction for all neonatal services within the hospital, emphasizing safety, quality, patient experience, access, stewardship, engaged caregivers, and smart growth.
Lead and inspire a culture of success, collaboration, teamwork and dedication by all team members including physicians, APP's, nurses, technicians and all staff members.
Participate in strategic development and growth of neonatal care programs and initiatives, focused on a holistic, integrated approach to clinical care.
Participate in scheduled meetings (provider meetings, service line meetings, quality meetings, etc.).
Implement best practices around staffing, NICU operations, peer review, and quality improvement.
Participate in the development and implementation of evidence-based care processes and best-practices, team-based care, including use of APP's and telehealth to support value and risk-based payment models.
Communicate and educate local teams about department initiatives including but not limited to evidence-based care processes.
Collaborate with unit leadership (manager, shared RN leaders) for NICU quality assurance and clinical performance.
Work in close partnership with hospital leadership in emergency medicine, pediatric inpatient medicine, newborn intensive care to optimize quality and safety of pediatric care within the hospital.
Address performance concerns for providers, including peer review.
Participate in neonatal peer review.
Work in concert with administrative leadership to ensure regulatory and safety compliance in clinical activities.
Provide specialty specific review and/or consultation as requested.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
M.D or D.O. with residency or fellowship training and Board Certification in neonatal- perinatal medicine. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.
Licensed or able to be licensed to practice Medicine in the State of Texas.
Holds active privileges or qualified to be credentialed at JPS Health.
Must be able to demonstrate effective leadership skills and the ability to work effectively and collegially with clinical and non-clinical staff to move others to action and model the vision and values of the organization.
5 years or greater of clinical experience with progressive leadership experience in a NICU.
Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
