Nutmeg Healthcare Recruiters is conducting a confidential search for several cardiology Physician Assistants and will consider both experienced and newly graduated PAs for a large, well-supported teaching hospital setting (subject to the details set out in this job description and in the client's formal job description).
As part of our client's team, you will be collaborating with physician and other healthcare providers for planning, evaluation, coordination, implementation and facilitation of all facets of care for patients.
Quick Highlights:
- New graduate PAs starting base salary is $133,000, depending on education or other relevant factors.
- The base salary for experienced PAs is up to $167,000, depending on experience, education or other relevant factors.
- Up to eight weeks of training and mentoring for new grad PAs.
- Union protected role.
- Day Shift: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday
Position Summary:
- Assess and diagnose cardiovascular related conditions
- Provide patient consultations and medical advice
- Develop and implement patient treatment plans
- Carry out minor medical procedures
- Perform non-invasive diagnostic tests
- Liaise with cardiologists and other medical professionals
Education / Skills Required:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Registered as a Physician Assistant in New York State
- NCCPA certified
Job Duties:
- Obtains patient histories and performs physical examinations; orders and performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; formulates diagnosis; develops and implements a treatment plan.
- Prescribes medications for the patient.
- Communicates effectively with members of the health care team and the patient and involves others.
- Participates in a team approach to health care by acting as a liaison between primary care team members.
- Performs emergency, lifesaving procedures in the presence of life-threatening situations such as cardiac arrest, massive
hemorrhage, or similar problems. Technical skills include but are not limited to, providing basic life support and advanced
life support. - In collaboration with the Attending Physician and other health care providers, coordinates the care of the patient.
- Performs procedures that may include insertion and removal of central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, Swann-Ganz catheters, arthrocentis, and lumbar puncture. In addition, performs venipuncture and arteriopuncture.
- Performs bedside procedures that may include venipuncture, insertion of IV catheter, arterial puncture, insertion of
nasogastric tube, urethral catheterization, intradermal injection, IV. - Attend daily teaching conferences and attending rounds.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
Preferred Technical Competencies & Experience:
- Foley Catheter insertion and removal.
- Immobilization of extremities.
- Injections, subcutaneously, intramuscularly, or intradermally.
- Intravenous medication administration.
- Intravenous therapy administration.
- Laceration repairs.
- Nasogastric tubes, insertion and removal.
- Oropharyngeal Airway (current ACLS required)
- Skin Tests.
- Suctioning
- Application and removal of surgical dressings.
- Suture/staple removal.
- Wound debridement.
- Venipuncture.
Patient Age/Population-Related Competencies & Experience:
- Must demonstrate the ability to administer medications to meet age and weight criteria of patient for pediatrics, adult, and geriatric age groups.
- Demonstrates knowledge of physiological and psychological patient differences in age-related groups: pediatrics, adult, and geriatric age groups.
- Establishes a teaching and long-term plan based on documented patient/involved others' learning needs, chronological maturation, emotional status, and cognitive ability.
Physical requirements/environmental working conditions of position: Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
