POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Sr. Executive Y Health and in accordance with Association policies, the Physical Therapist I is responsible for providing excellent health care to our clients by ensuring a positive experience through exercise instruction in our Parkinson's Disease program. The program is scheduled for two one-hour sessions each week. Physical Therapist I is scheduled as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide client care, evaluate functional needs, and provide consultation with other healthcare specialists as needed within a community-based exercise environment.
- Maintain the following forms of documentation:
- Client in-take form: contact information, current and past medical history, occupation, emergency contacts
- Attendance
- Intensity (resistance/speed/time) on the appropriate pieces of exercise equipment
- Special concerns or consideration that may arise during sessions
- Help to develop protocols for specialty populations, including Parkinson's Disease
- Participate in research studies supported by the facility.
- Continue education in order to develop skills by attending company continuing education events and approved professional courses.
- Direct the assistance of support staff to achieve optimal client participation in the exercise classes.
- Incorporate participation of a family member or caregiver whenever it seems appropriate to optimize and continue the participation of the client in the exercise program and ensure and provided a safe exercise environment for all the clients within the class.
- Is committed to the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee's Child Abuse/Neglect Prevention efforts as a mandatory reporter.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid and Current state licensure to practice physical therapy
- A minimum of 1-year clinical experience in working with individuals, preferably in an out-patient setting
- Graduate of an accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy program, preferred
- Geriatric specialty, experience with Parkinson's Disease and/or physical & rehabilitation medicine work, preferred
- Current CPR certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross
- Current in contemporary physical therapy best practice through educational workshops, continuing education, etc.
SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- Proficient in addressing patient concerns related to their condition, progress, and participation in the exercise program.
- Possess the knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of the client population that will be receiving services.
- Able to communicate effectively with clients and staff on duty and demonstrate excellent professional behavior
- Has strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrate the ability to remain calm in emergency or crisis situations.
- Possess the ability to manage clients of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds
- Demonstrate knowledge and can implement treatment practices related to the geriatric patient with special focus on individuals with Parkinson Disease
- Possess the physical abilities to walk, stand for long periods, over 80% of the assigned work period and lift and position patients weighing up to 75 pounds.
