Job description

The Physical Therapist Instructor provides instruction for the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Associate of Applied Science degree program. Instructor may provide instruction in any of the following areas:  Kinesiology, Therapeutic Exercise, Biophysical Agents, Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation, Neuromuscular Rehabilitation, Patient Interventions, Professional Issues, Cardiopulmonary Conditions, Conditions of the Integumentary System, and/or Rehabilitation Across the Lifespan.

 

Position will serve as the Clinical Education Coordinator (CEC). The CEC serves as a liaison between the PTA program and clinical education sites for the education and preparation of PTA students.  The primary responsibilities of this role include planning, coordinating, facilitating, administering, and monitoring activities on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with academic and clinical faculty.

 

This is a limited term (LTE) instructional position with anticipated grant funding through May of 2026; funding to continue the position beyond the grant cycle will be determined through the College’s budget process.

Instructional Duties:

  1. Plan, prepare, and deliver instruction and facilitate the learning of students within assigned courses.
  2. Perform academic responsibilities consistent with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) and with institutional policy.
  3. Engage in ongoing student learning assessment to determine effectiveness of instruction and curriculum.
  4. Create a classroom environment that is respectful of diversity and demonstrates a commitment to multiculturalism.
  5. Maintain accurate student records and reports as requested by administrative offices.
  6. Support students as a mentor, while referring to college support areas to ensure student success.
  7. Remain current on best practices in the teaching field so that instruction is delivered in a variety of methods, use the latest supportive technology, and utilize alternative delivery methods.
  8. Remain current on curriculum content with use of continuous quality improvement techniques to update content and foster current evidence-based program assessment and improvement.
  9. Prepare and update course syllabi (using BTC guidelines) for each course taught.
  10. Participate in professional development activities and serve on college improvement teams and college wide committees as appropriate.
  11. Attend advisory and departmental meetings.
  12. Assist in the enforcement of college regulations and report student conduct violations to administration.
  13. Meet weekly office hours and other duties required to meet student, employer, and college needs.
  14. Participate in activities of PTA Team including monthly department meetings, participate in program assessment, and program improvement.
  15. Meet Wisconsin Technical College System professional development requirements through the Faculty Quality Assurance System.

 

Clinical Education Coordinator Duties:

  1. Communicate between the program and affiliated clinical education sites including student placement, programmatic policies and procedures, programmatic changes, assessment of student performance, and dissemination of a clinical education manual.
  2. Clinical site development; maintain an adequate number of educational sites; identify and provide clinical site development opportunities through ongoing assessment.
  3. Collaborate with clinical faculty to promote, coordinate, plan, and provide clinical faculty development. 
  4. Mentor both academic and clinical faculty about their role and responsibilities related to clinical education.

 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills.
  2. Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology.
  3. Ability to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA.)
  4. Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the profession of physical therapy.
  5. Ability to meet the requirements to serve as Core Faculty and Clinical Education Coordinator as stated in the Evaluative Criteria for the Accreditation of the Physical Therapist Assistant Program.
  6. Member of the American Physical Therapy Association
  7. Able to initiate, administer, assesses, and document clinical education programs.
  8. Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
  9. Ability to travel for clinical coordination as necessary.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy or a related health science field.  (May consider candidates with Associate’s Degree in Physical Therapist Assistant with a plan to obtain Bachelor’s Degree as condition of employment offer.)
  2. Licensed Physical Therapist (PT) or Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) in Wisconsin, or eligible for licensure.
  3. Three (3) years of full-time clinical practice required, at least two (2) years must include experience as a CCCE (Center Coordinator of Clinical Education) or CI (Clinical Instructor).

 

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Master’s Degree in health-related field.
  2. APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor – Level 1 or Level 2
  3. Previous post-secondary education experience, including educational theory and methodology, instructional design, student evaluation and outcome assessment, classroom and online facilitation.
