Description:

Under administrative supervision, the Physical therapist diagnoses and treats patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities and functions as a chief Physical Therapist for the Developmental Disabilities Family Clinic, a multi-disciplinary outpatient program. Additionally, the Physical Therapist may engage in training or research activities as assigned.
Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Administers physical therapy evaluations and therapy for clients referred to the Family Clinic by the State of Illinois Early Intervention Program or community providers. Includes the preparations of detailed written reports including recommendations, guidelines and strategies for intervention, and follow-up as needed. Coordinates therapy with EI team including co-treating when beneficial to the client.
  • Administers physical therapy evaluations and therapy for children over 3 years of age and adolescents with suspected or confirmed developmental disabilities, including autism, ADHD and children with complex developmental challenges. Includes the preparation of detailed written reports, including recommendations, guidelines, and strategies for intervention.
  • Provides physical therapy intervention to children determined to benefit from direct PT services.
    Functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team participating in twice monthly staffing with team members, case managers, community agencies, and other consulting personnel regarding evaluation results and client treatment conditions
  • Provides guidance and expertise to graduate and undergraduate students including those majoring in Physical Therapy as well as those considering a career in occupational therapy, including LEND students. Available to supervise clinical fellows completing the clinical fellowship year in physical therapy.
  • Participates in community training and provides educational workshops designed to enhance awareness and understanding of physical therapy and intervention strategies and techniques
  • Remains current with recent literature and technology in the field by attending workshops, conventions, seminars, and completing and requirements for continuing education established by APTA (American Physical Therapy Association), the Illinois State Department of
  • Professional Regulations, and the State of Illinois Early Intervention Program.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required: 

  1. Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Physical Therapist from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation at time of employment (if not licensed at time of employment, passing score on examination for licensure is needed within two months)
