Job Summary


The Physical Therapist 3 (PT3) works primarily with patients with neurological conditions, in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting. The PT 3 serves as the resident Physical Therapist expert and specialist in Neuro care and acute care. The PT 3 organizes, coordinates, and implements Physical Therapy services to patients as assigned by the Physical Therapy Supervisor.

The PT 3 responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain current knowledge in the field and share this information within the healthcare community
  • Program Leadership and Program Development
  • Educational Activities
  • Carries/maintains qualifications that are professionally recognized in the field
  • Trains designated Physical Therapy staff
  • Acts as a resource for Physical Therapy personnel
  • Professional Activities
  • Miscellaneous assignments as required
  • Customer Service Standards - Professional/Patient Care

Minimum Qualifications

  • A valid and active California Licensed Physical Therapist
  • Must possess and maintain American Heart Association (AHA) CPR Certification or on-site through UC Davis Health)
  • Must possess a minimum of a Baccalaureate degree in Physical Therapy
  • Advanced knowledge of, and skill to apply, practices, principles, and techniques of patient care related to Physical Therapy as identified by the Physical Therapy Practice Act and licensure by the State of California, with specialized knowledge in Neuro Physical Therapy
  • Advanced skills to establish and follow/ provide plans of care appropriate to patients with neurological conditions, and other patients with a variety of diagnoses
  • Advanced ability to serve as a resource for staff in Neurorehabilitation
  • Ability to educate and train professional staff within the health system and in the community
  • Skills in effective verbal and written communication; able to effectively communicate with staff in a clear, concise, professional manner and able to establish rapport and communicate well with patients and family members
  • Ability to triage, schedule, and assign caseload with an average daily census on the therapy service
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility with daily job functions in a dynamic work environment where priorities and situations may change day to day and throughout the day
  • Skills in judgment, including clinical and non-clinical judgment
  • Skills in leadership
  • Organizational and development skills
  • Skills and ability to work in stressful situations
  • Highly developed tact and diplomacy skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must see well enough to observe patient reactions and read relevant monitors, relevant device settings, and relevant written information such as the patient's medical record
  • Must hear and speak well enough to communicate with patients and staff throughout the day
  • Must possess the physical strength to assist with patient mobility
  • Must possess sufficient mobility to traverse the distances required to serve patients throughout the institution
  • Must have basic computer skills


Department Description

The primary purpose of the Joint Venture Rehabilitation Hospital is to provide a full range of rehabilitation services designed to restore patients to their optimal functional capacity. The hospital is a 52-bed rehabilitation hospital on the Sacramento Medical Center campus. It is equipped with leading-edge amenities and adaptive units where patients can practice typical activities of daily living. The rehabilitation hospital also includes a 12-bed brain injury unit and four private rooms for bariatric patients.
