- Performs veni-punctures on all patient populations.
- Organizes workload efficiently and without delay.
- Practices safety and infection control procedures according to laboratory and hospital policies to assure a safe environment for patients, visitors, medical staff, and lab personnel.
- Performs all duties associated with LIS in an accurate and timely manner.
- Performs basic laboratory tests at patient's bedside.
- Processes paperwork and specimens for send out reference lab testing and drug screens.
- Demonstrates competency in assessing patients' needs at bedside.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one month experience which may be obtained through any of the following: High School and/or Vocational School; and/or Technical School; and/or essential experience; and/or On-The-Job training.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Phlebotomy certification is preferred.
- Common reasoning, basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of all units of measure, and with like common and decimal fractions. Ability to compute percentages.
- Ability to read reports, notes, ect. Write reports and procedures using proper grammar, spelling, etc. Speak with poise and control using correct English.
- Must be 21 years of age or older with current Class C drivers license.
- Organizes workload efficiently and without delay. Identifies patients and labels specimens accurately according to established procedures. Blood Banking errors must be evaluated case by case for severity of the error, and in some cases no errors will be tolerated.
- Consistently collects the proper specimens for tests to be performed. Writes date, time, and initials on labels and requisitions.
- Consistently completes routine blood sample tests within 5-8 minutes, difficult cases within 15 minutes. Maintains URL collection logs at assigned facilities.
- Practices safety and infection control protocol according to lab and hospital policies to insure a safe environment for patients, visitors, medical staff, and lab personnel. Handles contaminated materials according to infection control guidelines; reports accidents, incidents, and/or unsafe conditions to supervisor; completes incident report within 24 hours.
- Disposes of contaminated needles in a puncture proof container. Never recap or cut needles.
- Sorts chart reports for mail as needed. Handles information requests on specimen/test results.
- Assists with daily functions of secretary, courier, maintaining supplies, training new employees, and other needs.
- Performs drug screen collections and accurately completes chain of custody form.
