Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD Intern to join the Corporate Functions Research and Development Organization in Procter and Gamble, located in Cincinnati, OH. This specific role involves developing and applying principles of applied textiles science and microfluidics to creating new materials for Advanced Fluid Management in Absorbent Textiles.
The specifics of the work will be further defined based on team progress near the time of the start-date.

• Landscape / Literature review: Microfluidic systems development, expertise and application including Absorbent Textiles for menses and urine fluid distribution and absorption; Identify gaps in knowledge and potential research directions for the application of microfluidics in Absorbent Textiles.
• Development of experimental design / proof of concept: Demo gradient transport effect in model systems as published; Design ideas for integrating microfluidic systems into Absorbent Textiles and explore different approaches for fluid distribution, absorption, and moisture management in textiles using microfluidics.
• Prototype MVPs, move from lab scale to sample making scale: Fabricate microfluidic devices or prototypes using appropriate fabrication techniques (e.g., inkjet, screen print, and spray coating techniques) and optimize the fabrication process to ensure reliable and reproducible results; Validate the fabricated prototypes for fluid distribution and absorption performance; Integrate fabrics and electrowetting with commercial EWOD (electrowetting on dielectric) devices to start learning on product integration.
• Fluid Characterization and Analysis: Conduct experiments to characterize the behavior of fluids within the microfluidic channels of the Absorbent Textiles; Analyze the fluid flow dynamics, absorption kinetics, and moisture transport properties.

We are seeking PhD candidate with expertise in:

• We are looking for 3rd/4th year PhD students.
• Applied textiles science and mass transfer.
• Study of fluid flows and mechanisms in textiles and porous media
• Microfluidics, directing flow of liquids on surfaces and in porous media, creating surface gradients of phobic and phillic materials, and gradients of electrostatic charge on surfaces.

Relevant skills include polymers on surfaces, open surface fluidics, wettability pattering, understanding charge on surfaces, printing charges on surfaces, electrowetting.
