Pharmacy Technician I assists pharmacists in preparing (non-sterile) and distributing medications, restocking automated dispensing devices, crash carts and fire medic kits, processing patient charges and credits and maintaining the drug inventory. They work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist and do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.
Requirements
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. College courses desirable, but notrequired.
Experience: 2-3 years of Pharmacy Technician experience preferred, but not required.
Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations: Pharmacy Technician Registration through the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy, State Technician Certification is required. National Certification is preferred.
Equipment/Tools/Work Aids: Computer, Reference Books, Calculators, Telephone, Medication Carts, UD Packaging Machine, and Automated Dispensing Equipment.
Physical Requirements: Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g. use of a computer keyboard). May require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs), including boxes, equipment, unit-dose cassettes and IV solutions. Stooping and kneeling (e.g. to pick up items from the floor, to remove/replace items on lower shelves and to file documents in lower file drawers). Sitting, walking, or standing for a long period of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary. Normal range of hearing and vision to perform work and communicate effectively. Must be able to physically operate the equipment used for the job.
