The Pharmacy Technician Apprentice is trained to provide pharmacy services, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. These functions include, but are not limited to distributing pharmaceuticals, performing inventory control, assisting the pharmacist with narcotic reconciliation and discrepancy resolution, financial transactions, providing customer service and maintaining pharmacy records. The apprenticeship is designed to provide experiential training, to utilize and extend the Technician Apprentice's knowledge and competency while performing technical pharmacy functions in the Inpatient Pharmacy and Ambulatory Pharmacy.
- Prepares medication orders under the oversight of a registered pharmacist.
- Assists the pharmacist in the maintenance of adequate drug supplies in filling areas and gives notification regarding the need to reorder supplies.
- Assured that the filling areas are maintained in a neat and orderly manner.
- Refers request for drug information to a registered pharmacist
- Assists the pharmacist in maintaining the security of drug supplies.
- Provides appropriate documentation wherever and whenever required.
- Performs tasks associated with automatic equipment and maintains appropriate records as designated.
- Major responsibilities of the Pharmacy Technician Apprentice will vary depending upon which pharmacy role he/she is assigned.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an Accredited Pharmacy Technician Program.
- Valid New Jersey Pharmacy Registration or 180 day waiver, once registration application filed.
- Pharmacy Technician Apprentice Plans to take the PTCB certification exam or in possession of a valid Certification from PTCB or equivalent.
- Regular contact with medical center personnel, patients and visitors.
