Assists the Pharmacists by filling physician orders for medications for oral, rectal, topical, and injectable use; mixes IV admixture solutions as required using aseptic technique in the Isolator Barrier or other Air Flow Hood; type labels, prepares and files charge slips and performs other related duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists the Pharmacist in providing medication, patient drug information and pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physicians and other hospital personnel.
- Rotate through all work areas of pharmacy.
- Repacking bulk medications.
- Unit dosing.
- Transport medications, restock drug delivery devices.
- Rounds to pick up physician orders.
- Preparing chemotherapeutic agents.
- Screen telephone calls.
- Prepares intravenous solutions and admixtures.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and reorders them accordingly.
- Aids in the training of Pharmacy Technician students or new employees.
- Prepares select reports as needed/directed.
- Receives and stores incoming deliveries of medication and supplies.
- Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement and CQI activities.
- Performs all aspects of medication dispensing in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Maintains the Pharmacy Department in a clean and orderly manner.
- Demonstrates ability to calculate figures and amounts relating to dosage calculations when filling various orders and prescriptions.
- Performs assigned quality control activities on schedule.
- Maintains professional, helpful, and courteous relationships within the department and with other departments.
- Shows the ability to deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
- Ability to function as a team player.
- Keeps patient safety on the forefront at all times.
