Job Summary and Qualifications

Takes a leadership role within the pharmacy and the hospital to develop and maintain state-of -the-art clinical pharmacy services within Emergency Medicine (EM). Leadership is demonstrated through example, program development, presentations to other professionals, medication use evaluations and analysis, and provision of high-level clinical services to patients and health care providers. Under general supervision of a Pharmacy Manager, is responsible for directly overseeing all aspects of EM pharmacy operations and participating in all aspects of the hospital medication use system. Must take personal responsibility and accountability for patient medication -related outcomes. Should represent themselves, the pharmacy department, and the medical center in a positive and courteous manner, assisting all customers promptly. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Pharmacy services are provided 24 hours a day/seven days a week. Schedule may vary according to the needs of the medical center/department and may include weekend, shift, holiday, on-call, and additional hours.”

The following are the position requirements/qualifications:

Required Registration, Licensure or Certification

  • Current licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Kansas
  • Current Pharmacist Liability Insurance
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) verification course through American Heart Assoc. or American Red Cross – Healthcare Provider CPR
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) verification course through American Heart Assoc. or American Red Cross within 180 days of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) verification course through American Heart Assoc. or American Red Cross within 180 days of hire

Preferred Registration, Licensure or Certification

  • Board Certified Critical Care Pharmacist or other recognized specialty practice area
  • Registered as a preceptor with the Kansas Board of Pharmacy

Required Education or Experience

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD)
  • Pharmacy residency (PGY1) plus 1 year of ICU experience or Pharmacy residency (PGY1) plus Specialty residency training (PGY2) or 5 years of ICU experience

Preferred Education or Experience

  • Specialty residency training (PGY2)
  • Specialty fellowship training
  • At least 3 years of ICU clinical experience

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of State and Federal laws, TJC, and professional practice standards
